Scuba dive weights [Archive]

Anyone have an idea whether lead dive weights are pure, or some sort of alloy? I may be able to pick some up.

dive weights are made from any thing they can get to melt. steve k

IF you can scratch 'em with your thumbnail, consider 'em pure lead.

+1 Most likely a hodge podge, If they are plastic coated,might be pure lead. MIGHT be.

Be careful they sometimes have water in them. Start all the weights together and bring up to smelting temp. Don't add them to a pot of molten lead. Might go boom!

When I made mine, way back when, I used anything I could get. I suspect yours are the same.
