I have a question about powders in cast boolit loads. I se alot of loads using Varget for 30 cal cast and also some 45-70 cast. Also in a feew manuals 4895 is a common powder. My question is this: I have alot of IMR 4064, How close is this powder to Varget and 4895. Could it be used in place of them with reasonable caution and working up loads with a chrony??
I know this is a general question, but all advice is welcome!!

While they aren't directly interchangeable, they will all work for the same general usage, and are withing a few numbers on most burn rate charts.

Varget is ADI's version of 4895...4064 is just a tiny touch slower, but some lots may overlap with 4895.

in my 45/70 varget was the second most consistantly accurate powder with h4831 being the most consistantly accurate for a 2 1/4 inch 25 shot group at 200 yards with a saeco 540 gr bullet.
