Anyone know of a bullet to shoot other than roundball through this barrel? 96 grain round ball is good for most things but looking for one like a maxi ball or pa hunter style with a little more weight. Thanks

If you are willing to pay a little extra https://accuratemolds.com/index.php would probably make what ever you want. https://accuratemolds.com/submitNewDesign.php

Thanks, I will look into them. I was hoping to find a source to buy some or advice from someone with experience with a specific mold that worked well for them.

In the meantime I have a 0.395 dual cavity mold and a few round balls ready for squirrel season hunting tomorrow afternoon/night.

Yo 1BPHunter.
Years ago I tried out several different designs in the Green Mountain .40 barrels with the 48" twist.
What I found is that they pose a very peculiar set of problems.

With the deep grooves it's difficult to get the grooves filled up by expanding the bullet into the grooves. If you make the bullet heavy enough (enough inertia to resist movement so that the base expands) then the RPM's won't stabilize it.

So... I tried making bullets that would load like a Lee "REAL", engraving on the rifling.

I'd get a really good group going and then :), flyers.
Just never did achieve completely consistent groups but for deer, some of them would have worked just fine and dandy. Definitely as good or better than a 38-40.

These are from an adjustable length mold and need some more testing.

By the way, Lyman made a muzzleloading .395 hollow base mold for .40's.
I've got one of those around here somewhere but haven't tried it out.
Would have to put some paper around it as my barrel is .403" bore.
