Best Wood Tools makes mostly lathe accessories and adapters (that are truly exquisite), and I'd been thinking of this articulated mount for carving and smaller checkering projects. It is designed to hold lathe chucks and be mounted on a lathe tool stand, but can get the bench mount with the tool as I did.

The Good Stuff
Very nice to use, very solid, quick to adjust on all planes easily.
Available in several thread sizes- I got this one that fits the faceplate of my lathe- I can turn "buttons" and attach them on a carving stand in very little time. I am making up templates for grips that will fit on a back plate and screw on face plate.
Made in USA high quality.

The Not so Good Stuff
The adjustment levers are sometimes in conflict for space-that is to say they can interfere with each other- of course making the mount taller would add leverage in a bad way.
I don't think that this is strong enough for a large stock vise, but for pistol grips and smaller (ie: two part stocks) should be sufficient.
The mount is only as secure as the bench it is mounted on, a light bench would move before the tool post gave way, but wiggly is not a good thing.
