I am in need of replacing my 1868 trapdoor receiver. The orginal has a missing socket in the right hand side of the rifle where the hinge pin goes into. i have been turned down by every gunsmith in town and would love to hear from anyone here who has done such work to a Trapdoor.

The 1868 TD receiver is longer than normal TD's.

The most noticeable feature of this rifle or carbine is the length of the receiver. No other trapdoor has such a long receiver. M68 breech blocks are dated with the year of production: 1868, 1869 or 1870. However, very few rifles were produced in 1868, so the 1868 breech block is extremely rare.

Little machining, a little TIG welding.
