I traded into a Mauser .22 rifle a few months back and I haven't been able to find any info on it. Other than a marking that says .22 LR cartridge on the side (in German) there's no model number on it. I've had it out shooting once and it's wickedly accurate and I'd like to know more about it.

I don't know how to post picture yet on this forum but I'll put a couple up as soon as I can...

Any input would be welcomed...

Is it a sporter or look like a mauser 98?

The sporter is a 201 and the 98 look alike is a KKW.

Photo welcomed, of course_

you can get the best and most reliable answers asking on https://www.k98kforum.com/ site, but you have photos about it, anyway.

...in Germany, since before ww2, the .22s were also used as military trainers, produced by Mauser-Oberndorf and others (Gustloff, etc.) so their value can vary a lot depending on the era, model, etc.

I'll take some pix later tonight but it doesn't look like a K98. I've seen a few of the .22 training rifles and this isn't one of those.

There were quite a few different models of Mauser .22 rifles. The only one that I have personal experience with is the MAS 45, France's post war version of the KKW.

You might try looking on Forgotten Weapons on youtube.

Without pictures or a more detailed description, no one can really tell you what you have. Anyone who has any knowledge of these rifles won't speculate because there were a great many different models spanning a timeframe from the 19-teens up to and after WWII.

Your best bet for good information is the Mauser forum on Rimfire Central. I'd be happy to tell what you have here, but again, would need images and/or more info.

I just wrapped up a few crazy days. I had some medical appointments that had been scheduled awhile back then starting yesterday afternoon we had a 28 hour power outage because of wild fires. I'll get some pix taken and posted here in the next day or two...

I have a Orberndorf Mauser that my father bought new shortly before WWII. It's a mini-mauser. It used to be a tack-driver but has suffered rust in the bore. I have had pretty good accuracy with it and will be spending more time with it at the range.
