This 1980 SAA is probably the tightest SAA I have ever seen. I have a few 45 SAA. All accurate, and slightly bit loose. But I think the Colt Shop took special care on the 44 Special revolvers in 1980.

I bought one just like it - also in 1980. Don's Gun Shop in San Antonio had two of them for $379 each. I wanted both but could only afford the one. Still have it - and it shoots great with Elmer's boolit and 8.0gr W231.

You Sir are one LUCKY so and so. And don't you forget it!!! And hang on to that gun like grim death. For me, it would be the one they had to pry from my cold dead fingers.

I had one, briefly, and it was not accurate. At the time, I was shooting 1200+ rounds a month for PPC and my SAA would not shoot tighter than 3" at 25 yards and often would do worse. I sold it without remorse.

If it's not as accurate as you would like ... DougGuy can probably solve that problem and advise you what size boolit to shoot after he fixes the throats ... Don't sell it .
It's so good looking it can get by on looks alone !

I had a 44 special NF from that era. .428" groove and .433" chamber mouths. Started with .429",then .430", .431" and finally .433". Interesting watching the groups shrink, the larger the boolit was. Finalized on the .433". Then I traded it off for an 1892 in 38-40. Should have just kept the Colt and paid for the 1892 instead[smilie=b:

Mine has always been a tack driver with .429 diameter pills. It shoots well with any hardness too, from 40/1 to straight linotype - although I confess to never trying BP and pure lead.

Oh my. I love 44 Special - my favorite hands down. Fixing to help out my cousin who has 3 tables at the local gun show; and I have been thinking that there is really nothing I am particularly interested in buying or trading for ... But if a Colt in 44 Special like that one wandered in, I'd be changing my mind real fast

Bought one just like it in the late 80’s used for $450. That was the most I ever paid for a handgun up until that point. Walked out of the pawn shop without it at first but by the time I got to my truck I “bit the bullet” and went back in and bought it. It likes 429421’s sized .430 over 8.1 gr of SR 4756.
