I was going to order a few items from amazon.
I always only order things with free shipping.
Went to check out, and only way to get free shipping, is if I sign up for a free trial of prime.
I did that once before, and it's kind of hard to cancel prime.
I had to call them to do it.
Wonder if the free ride is over.
Friend has prime, so I'll just add my stuff to his when he orders.

Prime went from $13/mo. to $17/mo., but don't quote me on that because I use the "come on" for free Prime sparingly and call them to shut it off after the free use has sunset. I have even had Amazon reverse three months of $13/mo. activity, when I caught it on my credit card statement.

I pay for prime to get the free shipping. You’ve been getting free shipping without prime?

Huh. I just ordered some amazon stuff and got free shipping. It depends on the item or how much you buy. Wife has Prime for small stuff.

You’ve been getting free shipping without prime?

It's available on lots of stuff.
With prime, you just get it a lot faster and they also deliver on Sundays.
For us, prime gets it here in two days. Regular free shipping is the normal USPS or UPS ground.

The fee for prime is sort of like if the Post Office charged a lump sum monthly fee to automatically upgrade
you from regular mail to 2nd day delivery.

Also, they have a little thing you can click under some things that shows the prices of a item from different sellers.
If you check the ones that do or don't offer 'free shipping', you'll see the free shipping isn't exactly free.

I recently got a electric motor that one seller sold it with prime or free shipping for $130.oo.
Another seller that shipped it from somewhere pretty close to here and charged $90.oo plus shipping.
For me, shipping UPS ground was $12.oo. If it went someplace else- the $130.oo might have been cheaper.

Been a prime member for awhile now. Being rural it us almost a necessity. What I did notice over the last few months that returns for defective items and such are no longer free UPS pickup. They bumped it up to $7.99 for them to come get it. Got into an issue with Amazon customer service and said what gives with the new policy. Tried telling me in broken English that is was always like that. Told them bull. Guy basically said just drop it off at a UPS location, it is easy. Told him to look up my zip and find the nearest UPS drop off. For me it is 45 minutes away in Cumberland, MD or in Winchester, VA. Cost me more than $7.99 to drive there and back not to mention the pain with my back. Told them was looking into Walmart's delivery and asked for a Supervisor. After about four minutes on hold I hung up. Kinda stuck as not ma y other options.

I think Amazon's free shipping is only for CONUS ;)

There are no free rides someone somewhere pays for it, thru advertising or promotions.
Things will get more expensive, they have to.

I'm a prime member. The cost saved on shipping is worth it for us. Figure in the cost of gas & Prime looks even better. We also get some TV & music entertainment. But it looks like free shipping is available if your order exceeds $25(?)

i live in a rural area and the cost of gas vs Prime is Prime all the way. sometimes Prime is cheap, sometimes it ain't. if i need item A and Prime lists it $100, while Somebody else lists $50 + s/h($15), then Somebody else get my money even tho the shipping is 5 days, instead of 2 days.

Up until now, I got only things that were listed as free shipping.
Never had a problem.
It's was an option in the shipping section at check out.
I don't really order enough to pay for the prime.
Maybe once a month.
I know you get a bunch of extras, but don't need any of them.
Friend has prime, and gets more than his prime fees back.
Funny thing I noticed before.
With the free shipping they subtract the cost, which is below $10.
They list it as Standard Shipping.
I looked through the other shipping options, and lowest shipping was over $15.
If I could pay the Standard Shipping price, I'd just pay it.
Kind of like switch and bait to me.

I have prime and pay $139 a year. It saves you some over monthly.

Kind of like switch and bait to me.

They're full of little tricks.

I'm not sure if any company passes the savings along, but a commercial shipper that uses a lot of UPS
gets a deep discount on the price of the same thing if we took it to one of their shipping stores.
And they also come and get it from them.

Wife just ordered some bed sheets, and a day later I ordered 2 pair of shoes. Free shipping on both orders and no Amazon Prime involved. I have NEVER had Prime.

It's annual only now, so far as I know. I just got charged $139 for my renewal. And now, if you order something that's prime, and someting that isn't, even when they promised same day delivery on the prime merch, you don't get it until a couple days later... Ordered some wound care stuff for my wife. Supposed to get the one item that day. Nope. I've gotten tired of talking to their "customer support" people, since they don't do that anymore either.

I thought that everything shipped free over a certain amount ( If I recall either $25 or $35). No Prime for me. You just have to be careful because even though it says ships free, Amazon seems to default you to a pay for shipping option.

Amazon seems to default you to a pay for shipping option.

They do.
You have to watch closely off to the right of each item when you check out.

Down at the bottom, they often have an option for a dollar or so off if you
let them combine things into one box, but it might take an extra day to arrive.

I just noticed that in the listing, it no longer says Free Shipping.
It now says Free Delivery by amazon.
Just ordered free shipping last month.
As long as it's listed as free shipping, and you have more that $25 in the order, it was free shipping.
There was an option button in the check out.
That button is gone.
Sure hope people complain enough that it will come back.
I tried looking for someplace to ask them about it, but couldn't find a place.

If feel your pain but until fuel prices come down nothing will get any better. A buddy lives in a fly in location in Alaska. In the last year and half round trip airfare to Anchorage went for $300 to a little over $900. Drygoods shipping went from a dollar a pound to two dollars a pound. A dozen of eggs is currently 9 dollars.

I think by this picture you can tell how much I use prime. Use it everyday I can because I really don't like shopping in a store.

Suggest you read the checkout items, each box, carefully.

We have prime, and use it fairly often. You really DO have to watch the checkout option, it defaults to you paying for shipping. And around here we have a new warehouse. If it comes from that warehouse, it has been up to 4 days to get here by their driver. Read the checkout close.....
Oh. If you happen to have a whole foods grocery close, returns can be dropped off there for free return.

i don't like cable tv, so i bought a Firestick last year sometime. it has a bunch of free movies and shows, but what i like about it is the Prime videos. they say its free, but i'll watch it for $139/year and "free" deliveries.

Watch more prime tv than shipping so shipping is a bonus.

I wonder what Amazon is going to raise prices on since they went woke on the rings of power series and spent nearly a billion bucks on what's shaping up to be an epic flop

Tried again this morning.
Only 3 options for shipping now.
Free with trial of prime
Shipping
Standard shipping
Used to have one more that was.....
Free shipping.
I'm guessing they want everyone to pay for prime to get free shipping.
Also found out that AARP members get a discount on prime.
Also something about medicare discount.

I have Prime with my Amazon.fr account, but when I ordered something for my son on Amazon.com for my son in Alaska, they wanted to change me $15 to ship it. I took their 30 day free prime offer and got the shipping for free. After I knew the item was delivered, I canceled prime. No problem doing it or need of calling them.

I figured it out.
One of the items in my cart, even though it's listed as free shipping, is not.
So the whole order is not free shipping.
