Today was shooting day for Mrs.Thumbcocker at the CCW class. Here is her target.

According to her, the instructor was impressed. A 62 year old woman with bifocals shooting a (gasp and clutch pearls) revolver. She tied for second place in the class with another woman. The first place shooter beat them by one point.

This was done with home cast boolits.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220828/0905f54cc8dbe281f1f29c78a8af1ce9.jpg

What distance is required for your ccw quals? I think ours is 10 yds or so, and a 70% score.

Nope, I looked it up 7yds max. 6 at 3, 12 at 5, 12 at 7yd..... not real challenging..

In Illinois it is 5,7, and 10 yards.

Congrats, she did MUCH BETTER than I did years ago when I went through the course. Only pistol I had to use was my fathers Colt .45 made in 1917 that became mine in '06. My eyes were bad then, still are, and I could not focus on the sights and target at the 10 yard range, just looked down the slide. I passed and that's all that mattered.

When asked, "Why did you shoot the Perp 30 times?"

Her answer, "That's all the boolits I had."

In my limited experience I find that women take training better than men. She did well!

So,, did she take that target,, put it in the instructors face & say something like; "Well, YOU may like a Striker fired handgun, but my revolver works just fine!"

The devil would make me do that.

When I took my course in Missouri we had to qualify with both a revolver and a semi-auto. There were about 15 of us in the class and the thing that struck me was the number of people who had problems with the semi-autos. Feeding problems, misfires, dropping mags unintentionally, among others. Over half of the class had at least a minor issue. Meanwhile there was one fellow who had trouble with his revolver due to an indexing issue.

Very well done!
Our instructor told my wife that she had to shoot her m67 Smith double action only. She had never done that before, but she stepped up and put all 50 shots at three distances into a group the size of this phone- best in class. I was in fourth place[emoji16]....

I worked for the Dept of Corrections in AK for 20 years and was a Range Master for most of that. Working in AKs female Correctional center, I had the chance to yearly qualify many of the female officers and found them to be easier to work with than the male officers. They don't have the preconceived notion that they know everything they need to about firearms and shooting.

I also taught my wife and daughter to shoot which worked out well.

4" model 19 Smith. Pinned and recessed. Pacmyer "professional " grips. That grip was specially designed for women. Load was the Lee 125 rnfp (a very versatile boolit that works well in 9mm also) over 4.0 of promo in .38 special brass. This load shoots to point of aim in fixed sight guns. The model 10's love it. Turns out the 19 does to.

She was hitting 9mm cases taped to a plate (sideways) at 10 yards during practice sessions.

I brought her lunch both days of the course.

When my wife got on the P.D. I was working for she stole my Model 66 and she could really shoot that 4" beauty....to make sure she got to keep it she had her name and badge number engraved on it....she can still shoot it well at 74!

Small groups in a defensive course means you are shooting too slow.
