Im trying to Obama proof myself for the future. Heres about half of the primers I am stocking for myself and the other half is sealed to preserve them for long term storage just in case. :drinks::Fire: I still have another bunch of about 10,000 that I dont have a use for.

Mike,
You better fill the rest of that table.
It's not the four years, it's the decades that it will take to clean up the mess.

I don't know if anyone should say how many primers they have. I have heard that there is a limit of how many primers an individual can have. Does anyone know if that is true???

Good question, but if the gun-grabbers get their way, owning ANY will be a crime.

Why? You can't legally ship primers through the mail.

Hello All, celebrated the election with buying a Marlin 1895 and enough reloading stuff for a few hundred rounds. Nothing like 70k of them but it's a start. :)

As far as I know there's no limitations on primers or powder in my small community, but that's only because no one's ever thought to pass an ordinance. Everybody here shoots. Rifles in window racks are very common because they are a tool and nothing else.

On the other hand, your homeowner's insurance might have a problem though. I have about 40,000 stashed.......barely enough for the next four years.......

I'm not aware of any limitations on primers but powder limitations are a local issue and not from the anti-gun crowd. Local fire departments make regulations on both powder quantities and storage containers for both private homes and retail outlets that sell powder. Via the County Fire Dept. the retail store at our range not only had to store smokeless and black in different containers but in different buildings. They also limited the quantity of powder that could be stocked on the premises and given the huge number of different powders in one pound cans they had to drop 8 pounders from inventory to keep the quantity under the limit.

The quantity limit for smokeless in a private residence in Los Angeles County is 25 pounds. Not sure what it is for black.

I don't own any reloading equipment or supplies, either. I just buy factory ammo. .22LR, mostly.

There is Tap A Cap for black powder. I wonder if someone is going to design a Make A Primer for cartridge. Even if we go back to Berdan Primers, at least we could still got to the range.

docone31.........Shame on you! Don't even THINK of caving in to these zealots...the idea of not being able to FREELY purchase what I need for my hobby makes my skin crawl. :kidding: Hey, I know you're kidding.

Still a Puncha Primer kit would be awesome.......I can see it now, several million dedicated shooters patiently grinding up match heads to make primer composition...until the new Match Head Registration Act takes effect.

SAAMI code 10-3.7
Smokeless propellents for personal use shall not exceed 50 pounds and must be stored in wooden boxes with walls at least 1" thick. Up to 20 pounds may be stored in original containers.
There is no limit for primers and only powder which is 50 pounds max for personal use.(OOPS!!)

3 months ago I ordered all the WOLF brand I could afford. I always do this some months before return up north there to have some on hand and not have to be at the "No Mercy" of the cutthroats.

THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS: VERY CONSISTANT

there are several threads floating around, most have been bad reviews, but typically end up with a gun or ammo issue...not the primer. no primer manufacturer is perfect, all have had primers that did not go bang.......heck winchester had an issue with sr primers a few yrs back. the primers all went bang....but the cups were failing....not everyones...but some.

so lets say that my supplier had over 2 million sr/223 primers in stock in november.....the end of dec.....ZERO.

WE WILL HAVE TO SEE IF ANYONE RETURNS THEM AS UNACCEPTABLE....LOL

I had about 80,000 of them, but realized it wasn't safe to own more than 100 at a time so I turned them in to the Fire Dept on amnesty day. I feel so much safer now!!

Simple answer #1: split up any "over the limit" stash and store some at family and friend's property.

Simple(r) answer #2: convert primers and powder to finished rounds :-)

Hey, lay off the fire department. If you live in a locale that has a fire prevention bureau (and most don't), they generally don't have the authority to inspect single family homes, so you can violate the fire code just as you can the electrical code.
If you have the misfortune to have a fire in your home, smokeless just makes it burn better if it gets lit up. Not a big deal for us, but it might be for you.

LOL, I can fill the rest of that table with the ones in long term storage. About 70-80,000 of them in stock now(Theres about 22,000 on the table).LOL. I store them wrapped in brown paper bags and then in a vacume bag with silica gell in them for any moisture left over.
I have UMC nickle primers from the early 50's that still ignite the charge no problem. The old red label in wooden trays. Cool stuff.

I'm thinking of getting a boat and scuba gear to go find all the stuff lost in "boating accidents'. It seems to be a tragic trend as I see reports all over the web.

Ivan, This is far from panic buying. Its typicaly what I try to stock and been doing it that way for years. Its always a safe bet to stock up when you can afford to buy some extras as long as you store them properly. Most are finding that out now the hard way because primers are dwindling in supplies. Its been alot quiter at the range lately except for me and my buddies because we try to think ahead for times like these. Theres a sport shop by me with still thousands and thousands of primers in stock and I buy 1000-2000 per week if I can.:-D
