I am trying to help a friend
He just had a older Rem Model 7 rebarreled to 22 BR with a heavy barrel
As he has plans of a moderate range ground hog rifle

Problem he says he is having is finding 22 BR brass , I have not looked

But I have some 1X fired 7 BR brass for a XP 100 I sold that I will trade with him

So I know you can convert 7 BR into 22 BR ( I have never looked into doing it myself , or know what it takes to do it )
But is it a easy job to do ?
Or should he just either find 22 BR brass or maybe 6 BR brass to convert

Thanks
John

It's a pretty big jump from 284 to 224, It would behoove you to size down to 6mm (BR) first then form to 22 BR. You WILL have to turn the necks unless your friend requested an extremely large neck.

Second that on going to 6mm Br. then down to 22 Br. Its how I do it, unless I am starting with 6mm Br. brass. I do have to turn necks. Tell your friend to get some AA2520 powder and some 53vmax or 55 sierra BK's and have at it. IIRC, I can get a bit over 3800 with the 53 vmax out of a 23.5" barrel, bit more if you have a longer barrel. If the barrel has a fast twist, the 53 vmax might not survive the trip downrange, too much rpm on the bullet. The 55 SBK MIGHT survive. Mine is a 1-12" twist (rechambered/shortened 223 rem barrel)

Thanks

I told him to read the forum and learn

But yesterday he found Laupa 6 BR brass and ordered 100 cases
LOL I am sure the brass was not cheap
But it should be good brass

I've done the 7BR down to 22 with quite a bunch of it. I created an intermediate step by shortening a 243 sizer die, and using it in between the 7-22 stage. The neck, shoulder looked kind of funky until after the first loading/fireform shot, but actually that fire form shot was accurate and fine for squirrel shooters.

My 22 BR is a tight neck chamber, so neck turning was also part of the process. All said and done it was a hassle, but it's all fun. jd
