Got a lead on a 24" Pedersoli Rolling Block $910

My LGS called me concerning a Pedersoli Rolling Block .45-70 with a really heavy barrel that seems about 24 inches long (didn't measure it).

For sale for a bit over $900.

Should I buy this Rolling Block or hold out for the Falling Block 1895 High Wall .45-70 Uberti Winchester I was looking for?

I think for a little more money , you could have what you really want. Continue the search, IMO.

While I like my rolling blocks, If your hearts is set on the others like was said it wont make you as happy.
The one thing I like with my rolling Blocks and hepburns over the under leavers is they are easier to shoot prone for me.
Pluses I see to the Pedersolli are 1) they usually have good wood on them
2) wood to metal fit is normally good to very good
3) they have earned a reputation for very good barrels.
Go look it over with a open mind and see what it is.

I’ve been in the same boat for almost 9 months now (LOL) ever since Ruger released the new Marlin SBL 45-70’s. I’ve *almost* spent the money I’ve set aside for another rolling block, Sharps, take your pick I love them ALL. I’ve got three major LGS within 100 miles of me but I REALLY want one of the new Ruger made Marlins to add to my other JM’s….

Hold out a bit longer and buy what you really, really want. You’ll be much happier in the end…..I know I will!

While I like rollers, I've had a couple, a High Wall is a good looking firearm. I had a Ruger #1V in 25-06 too, beautiful rifle. Save up and get your HW.

I'm with the wait and get what you really want guys. I am a big roller fan and like them better than the high/low walls. However, the 24" barrel thing makes me think it is an early Navy Arms roller made by Pedersoli. If that's the case I would pass for $900.

Found exactly what I wanted at a gunshow: Pedersoli Sharps "Q Down Under" model with 34" barrel in .45-70. I'm so excited.

It's Quigley's gun in .45-70! Even has a tang rear peep sight already installed.

These Quigley models are in the catalogs -- Shiloh, Pedersoli, Uberti, Cimarron, etc -- but impossible to find; and way backordered. I'd be an old man before getting my rifle.

So I nabbed it. What a beautiful piece.

They're heavy, mine weights in at a little over 12#, 15# with the long Malcolm scope. I think you'll like it better than the rolling block. Both are nice rifles, I have both.

Buddy found a beat up old #3 in 45-70, cleaned it up and put a 30" 1 1/8 across the flats in it chambered for a 45x120 1/2. That 1/2 being his description of the Hornady 45 calber, un-formed, casings, chambering in the barrel. So, I ask, what are you going to shoot with it, Anything I want to shoot... OK. A year later stopped to pick him up, on the way to Tulsa, Oh I shot a deer with the 120 1/2 and a 500.....did you kill the deer? Oh Yeah, it was sorta like it was struck by lightning, i bet.
