Good morning
Anyone bought one of these New Classic Model 24 ? They look mice but how well are they put together? How well do they shoot ? I was thinking a 44 Special would be fun to play with. I have several 44 Russians so might as well take the next step.
THANKS !!! God Bless you.

Have a Lew Horton 24-3 Smiff. Love it. No clue on the new "old" ones.

I've been looking at them pretty seriously, BUT like the 24/624 guns made in the 80s a lot better. (I stumbled into a 6.5 inch 624 for $450 plus tax this past August!) There are a lot of minor details that aren't quite right esthetically and the safety lock is another objection.

For the the prices I'm seeing locally and on the auctions like gunbroker, etc, I'd buy one of the older guns...saw NIB 24s and 624s under $700 IIRC.

I've got about 1500 nickle plated 44 Special casings tucked away. Load them with a full wadcutter and a 900 feet per second load and be in good shape for anything that I need.

I'd like to have one of the new 5 screw 44 mag 4" just because I'll never find an original that's affordable. But in 44 spl I'd hold out for 24-3 or maybe a conversion. I had a model 28 conversion to 44 spl in the classifieds last month and couldn't give it away and it was nicely done. Then my dad decided he wanted it so it's still in the family.

I'm a dyed in the wool S&W revolver lover for the past fifty years. THE first handgun I shot was a Smith snub gun when I was eight years old. I'm also an OPINIONATED SOB as well.

I would NOT waste the money on a new "Classic" complete with lock when one can buy the real article for LESS money. Not talking 5 screw pre 29's here buy the M24's and M624's produced in the 80's.

The re release Classics are IMHO poor copies of the originals. Between the internal lock and the stocks that are far from the originals...why bother. Get the real item.

A model 24 (or 624) Smith & Wesson OR an Original 44 FLAT TOP Ruger is an elegant firearm. While I have model 29s and SUPER BLACK HAWKS, the older guns have "feel" to them that makes me reach for my wallet when I see one.

The re-release guns are OK, but just don't touch my soul AND there have been a lot of threads about the 50th Anniversary Rugers.

Differences of opinion is what makes horse races and political elections.

I have the Thunder Ranch .44 spl, fixed sights round front. Nice gun, well made,
I hate the front sight. The good news is that, unlike the old models, it is pinned
in and I will make and use a normal ramped sight with a fiber optic insert.

I have no experience with the new "Classic" line of .44 Specials. However, I have an original Model 24 (6.5" barrel) and two 624's (a 4" and a 6.5"). ALL of them are superb revolvers.

That said, I love my two 625's and they are recent models (625-6 and a 625-8). If the Classics are of the quality of my 625's then it would be hard to beat them. On the other hand, if the originals can be had for less money that would make my decision easy. However, good used ones are scarcer than hens teeth...

I bought one from the 1980's, and wouldn't trade it for anything. It is ACCURATE as all getout, and the fun factor with it is right off the scale. No silly lock on it, either, and it won't rust in the beautiful PNW liquid sunshine.
I hoard Remington .44 SPL brass. I have over a thousand loaded with the excellent Lyman 429421 bullet.

Happy Shootin'! -Tom
