I have started working on a cast hunting load for my 270 Winchester. I have found very little information by searching the site and would like to know what is working for others.

RCBS 270-150grain sized .279-.280 works best in my 10 twist Win M70 and my friends Ruger American. I gas check with Hornady or a home made check, hasn't shown a difference. 10 grains of Red Dot/Promo for about 1500fps or Winchester 748 for 2000fps. Accuracy tends to fall off after that for me. I use either wheel weight lead or some hard lead I buy here. Lubed with Carnauba Blue from White Label Lube. I tried Powdercoating for both rifles, but the bullet had to be seated pretty far down and I did not like it. The Red Dot load has accounted for 4-5 deer in the last 2 years for us. Ranges from 40 yards to 120. PM me if you'd like and we can talk on the phone.

I also am on the path of lead and my new Winchester M-70 lightweight with the snable forend.

So far I have used the Lee 130ish boolit. I powdercoat them but honestly have not devoted the time with load developement to wring them out yet.

Interested in this thread!

I'm using this 130 gn n both my 270Savage and 303/270 at speeds up to 2,500fps! It's a scaled down copy of the Lyman 311284.

Well Worley, have you been able to load anything up and test?

My best friend developed this pet hunting load for his 270 Winchester , uses the RCBS 270-150-SP .
Cast of 50-50 ... COWW & soft lead , air-cooled , gas checked , sized .277" .

34.0 grs. 3031 @ 2009 fps (this is a max load ... start low and work up to it)

Rifle : Remington model 700 , 22" bbl. length , 1-10 twist .

This is John's deer and hog load .

For a Fun Load ... the same boolit over 13.5 grs. Red Dot @ 1591 fps is just the ticket !
