357 Load for Silhouette

Looking for a place to start for loading 357 Mag.
Pistol is a 6" GP-100
Will be using 158gr. Lead and Copper Plated.
I have 231, HP38 and CFE Pistol for powders.
Nothing real heavy, Medium Load to nock down steel at 50yds.
Accuracy is the goal.

I used to shoot 4.5g of 231 powder with 158g LSWC bullets in my steel plate guns. In my Davis custom PPC gun I’d get ragged hole five shot groups at 25 yards off the bench. These were loaded in 357mag cases. Mild to shoot and very accurate.

I've used 6.1 grs. 231 behind a 160 gr. bullet in my 357's for plinking. It should be plenty powerful enough for 50 yard plates.

I have always found it best to study my various manuals,, then, use the knowledge to assemble a few test loads to try in my gun. I let my guns tell me what loads it likes & what's the most accurate.
In todays times with limited components,, the best thing is to study a lot before assy. I just know that what works in one gun can easily be totally wrong in another gun.

Go to the International Lawn Steel Shooting thread here in the Wheelguns, pistols and hand cannon section. We are shooting Rams, Pigs and Turkeys at 75 yds. Precision shot placement with ammo in your parameters. Average overall velocity in the group runs just over 800fps. Chicken heads at 75 yds are common practice with standard Lawnsteel ammunition. The propellant choices you list, only see limited use for this type of silhouette steel competition. Brute force will not beat accuracy and finess. You will find extreemely accurate load information within the thread. Best of skill to you.
