Gentlemen;

Who of you know much about the 6.8x44?

I have not seen anyone actually firing a rifle so chambered but I've been picking up spent brass on the firing line for some months now.

I like the appearance of the case - it looks quite ballanced - a good prospect for chambering in a bolt gun and shooting cast bullets perhaps?

All comments will be interesting to us on this site I'm sure.

Good eveining, Forrest

Never heard of it and google doesn't help either. The 6.8SPC is 6.8x43mm, but can't find anything 'bout a 6.8x44mm...

Closest thing I can find is the new Special Purpose Military round, the 6.8X43. The bullet diameter is the same as the .270, the parent brass case is the .30 Remington necked down to .277. The .30 Remington case appears similar to a rimless .30-30. Stamping the brass 6.8X44 might be an effort to avoid patent rights or other legal issues. Any other markings in the case head? If it is the 6.8, numerous AR15 makers are selling guns and uppers for it, and Thompson has made Contender barrels for it. I don't know of any bolt guns but it's only a matter of time...

I have a 6.8x43....6.8 SPC great round, killed my buck this year with it.
My rifle is an AR-15, I have some cast to try in it but waiting for warmer weather.
Remington makes/made a Bolt 700 in 6.8.

Gentlemen:

Well now, Since this thread was last in view I've learned that these pick-up cases of mine are actually 6.8x43s. The cases are not marked beyond "6.8 SPC" but since they actually measured 44 mm long with my caliper I thought it was pretty close-enough.

Anyway, to me the case volume and bullet diameter seem equitable or "balanced" so-to-say and I just might be interested enough to get a bolt gun built up to chamber the cartridge. (bolt face diameter might be troublesome)

I'll go check Remington's offerings for such a rifle.

Good evening,
Forrest

I've heard that CZ and Ruger both make bolt guns in 6.8, but I have never seen one with my own eyes.

Remington makes a bolt and Ruger's Mini is available in 6.8 SPC along with many AR-15's.

Hicard;

I was looking at Remington's site and did not find anything that showed availability of a 6.8x43 bolt rifle ~ I could've missed it of course.

As for the "gas-guns" as we call them - I'm not interested.

But thanks for the post.

Good evening,
Forrest

I never cared for the "gas guns" or "black rifles" either until my son and I built one in 5.56. I took it hunting saturday with my new 6.8SPC upper. Always been a bolt or single shot guy in a rifle, but you know, I love this little rifle.

Did you end up getting a chance to poke a deer with that 6.8 Moonie?

I did not, not yet. My 19 year old Marine son did get his first deer however. Got to teach him how to gut, skin and butcher it, nothing better in this world than that.

I have looked into pouring for the 6.8 and I can't find bullet molds for it. ok, I can't find gas checks either. I have two 6.8 rifles and expect another in a few days. these things are accurate.(Yes. they are AR15 in 6.8) I have looked at Midway and Graf and sons, no luck. Anybody???

Blammer can probably fix you up with GC. Finding a lightweight mould is another story though. I have been keeping an eye out for one for the past year. I have a 6.8 in an Encore rifle. Might have to go the custom route but I am in no hurry to cast for this, although I already had Lee make me a sizer for it.

LBT has molds in the proper weights for the 6.8. They have a LFN in 120gr that would work and spitzers in 90, 100, 110 and 130.

.270 gas checks shouldn't be too hard to find, and Blammer should definitely be able to find some.
