Kind of want it to end up like this, but not sure how deep to mill.

Would prefer to do like this but do NOT want to have to remove the loaded chamber indicator.

From reviewing some information that people have posted if you go to deep it interferes with the slide internals and then they need modified (blocker?).

I don't see anybody jumping on that :-). I have the equipment and would not mind having the process all worked out. I have a 4" service model XD45 that might get the treatment too if it works out. A lot of the vendors already doing it use cnc and leave the male posts sticking up to act as dowel pins for the optic, but some others don't bother with it. The optic is actually captured front to rear in the slot so I agree with those who think the posts are not required, especially for a small/light optic.

The other alternative is to get an adapter plate that goes into the rear sight dovetail. I put one on my s&w shield ez. Worked fine, no machining. I've since moved the reflex sight to another gun and went back to iron on it.

This was my solution. It has a very small footprint.

I bought one of those but they are pretty clunky overall ;-).
