Looking at old Remington ammunition catalogs, they note use of the 1 1/2 Primer for all Remington 38 Special +P loads. Remington listed the 5 1/2 for their 357 Magnum loads.
I did see on this site someone mention that Remington doesn’t use the 1 1/2 primer in 38 Special +P loads. I’m a bit confused…

Do you see any concern using the 1 1/2 Remington primers in 38 Special +P 158 gr lead/cast loads? My 38 Spl +P loads are within Speer’s reloading manual for 38 Spl +P 158 gr SWC/SWCHP’s.

I would have no issues loading 38 +p loads with Rem 1/2 primers.

Watch for pierced primers. . The Rem 5 1/2 is my choice or any magnum primer.
The 1½ primers are listed for the 25 Auto, .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 S&W, .38 Short Colt and .38 Special. None of these cartridges exceed 25,000 psi peak chamber pressure limits

Remington loads the 9MM with 1 1/2 primers, so...

^What he said. I have used thousands of Remington 1 1/2's and except for in the .327, where I did experience pierced primers, it worked fine in .380, 9mm, 38 Spl, 32 ACP.

they are intended for low pressure loads like 38 spl, 32-20 they work well in 22 hornet and 25-20 also. but in the current primer climate I'll be willing to bet folks are even trying them in 5.56 rounds if they can't find any other primers because they will fit in the primer pocket.

Received and began using the 1 1/2 primers in 38 Spl +P loads. I’m getting pierced primers using N340 and AA5 in velocity ranges 960-980 fps with 158 gr cast in my Ruger 4 5/8 inch. I never had pierced primers using Fed 100 or CCI500 at these velocities and above. The 1 1/2 primers are not piercing with Power Pistol and 158 gr bullets at 925 fps +/-. Seems any shot string with an entry of 965 fps and above, there will be some pierced 1 1/2 primers. Again Fed100 and CCI500 work flawlessly without ever any pierced primers.

I seriously doubt my 960-980 fps loads which pierced exceed 25k psi, level Remington says not to go above with their 1 1/2 primers.

My Rem 1 1/2 are only about 4yrs old. I've used them in 9mm+P, .38+P and low end .357mag loads without any problems.
