Bear Creek Bullets

I have recently started shooting "Bear Creek Bullets" out of my .38/55 and they have a black coating. I am shooting smokeless, but it takes a while to get out all the black when I am cleaning my Rifle after practice. The manufacturer says the black residue does not hurt the barrel if there might be some left over, BUT I AM NOT AS TRUSTING. Anyone have experience?

I shoot many thousands of Bear Creek bullets in My Cowboy days. Never had any problems. Shot some .45-70, .30-30 and .38-55 all shot fine. Took a bit of elbow grease with a brass brush, but the bbl's were clean after a dozen extra passes with a brush.

Black coating always seems to leave the biggest mess. I think most PCers avoid it.

Why are you assuming it is coating and not just plain powder fouling?

I love the little Bear Creek bullets for my 380. I believe the coating is some kind of hardened moly. If anything, I'd think that it may provide some degree of corrosion resistance to your bore. I've been known to be too optimistic at times though. jd
