This is Turkish made 8X57 Mauser ball ammo that is being sold for components only. This lot has brittle case necks with about 40 percent having visible cracks in the case neck. Sold in bandoleers and brass stripper clips of 70 rounds per bandoleer. You can easily removed the bullets from the cases with hand pressure only, usually just a twist of the bullet will crack the neck and the bullet comes right out. Both the bullet and the powder can be used safely. There is about 50 grains of powder per round, with powder selling for $40 a pound (when you can find it), that is twenty-eight cents worth of powder! The powder can be used in many mid-caliber cartridges in a reduced loading, such as .308, .30-06, 8x57 etc.
The bullet is magnetic and reportedly weighs 155 grains. Muzzle velocity of this load has been measured at nearly 3,000 FPS so it is a hot load. I use this powder and bullet in civilian brass at 35 grains of the Turk powder and it has plenty of thump on paper targets but I suggest that you find your own load by testing.
Twenty-eight cents worth of powder, fifteen cents or so for a bullet, brass stripper clips reusable bandoleers and you have the scrap value of the brass cases! Of course that primer has to deactivated before scrapping and the only reliable way to do that is with fire! Do not rely on water, WSD40, etc to kill the primer!
