I finally received replacements for the bad wadcutters I got from MBC. (see this thread (https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?441101-Asymmetric-commercial-DEWCs&highlight=asymmetric))

To be honest they are still a bit variable for my taste but the MBC people have been great so I decided not to complain.

I was trying to decide whether to seat them flush or to the crimp groove, so I decided to try both ways.

These were all loaded with 3.2 grains W 244.
FL sized nickel .38 Special brass.
CCI 500 primers.

Light crimp with a Redding PC die, just enough to straighten the case.
Fired from my S&W Model 14, 6" barrel.

1.245 is centered on the crimp groove.
1.160 is just a hair proud of the case.

OAL 1.160

fps 729
sd 15
es 45

OAL 1.245

fps 617
sd 25
es 73

I'm really surprised by the big difference, quantitatively and qualitatively. In addition to the reduced SD and ES, the flush-ish load was notably more accurate. The variability I mentioned in the bullets doesn't seem to hurt accuracy enough to matter for my purposes, as long as I seat it deeply.
