I purchased this barreled action probably fifteen years ago can anyone identify it from the pictures below. I believe it is smaller than 8x57, a loaded round will drop in the chamber but I don't think it is going all the way in to where the bolt would close. I was going to put a bolt in from one of my other Mauser's but haven't yet, figured I would try here first.

It's a type 38 or type 99 Arisaka. A type 38 will have 2 gas escape holes on the receiver and a type 99 will have one.

It has the dust cover groove on the reciever so it is a 38( I think...)- so should be 6.5x50 Japanese.
Excellent actions.

Type 99's also have the groves for the dust cover. By the arsenal marks, I think it is a type 99 short rifle.

Looking at the Castle-Thunder website. I think it is a 37th Series Type 99 Short made at the Tokyo Juki Kogyo Arsenal.

well dam with the trigger and bolt release I thought it was a mauser, my guess was small ring 7mm. are bolts still readily available? I wondered what the groves were for, also it doesn't have a step barrel that kind of threw me off for mauser. It has one gas escape hole, and now that I look closer you can see where the mum was ground off, no import pencil like the yugo's had.
Thank you so much I love this site.

With the above and compared to an example I had I would agree with the others .

The one I had would have likely been ok to shoot with 7.92×57J ammo as the Metford type rifling groove was .318 . I ended up with a 8mm Mauser neck die and an alternate decapping pin to avoid the overworked necks . 8×57 brass will form easily but it's a little short .

Bolts are around, might have to do some searching. Numrich, Sarco, even E-bay might turn up what you need.
