I found these today at Academy for $13.97 per 25rd box. It seems like Remington or Winchester 5rd boxes were $7 last I looked.
Hell of a deal? Look out, river pigs.
And isn't 20 gauge buck usually #3?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220617/ead4d5998eaced717eff03c751f99d8f.jpg

I don't have any experience with the Monarch ammo. I did buy some Remington 20 ga buckshot from Academy which I do think is number 3. I haven't tried any yet, as I haven't had any cooperative targets.
Give 'em a try and let us know.
Good Luck with them,
Rick

Most of the buckshot I have seen in 20 has been #3. Nice find.

I've loaded a lot of #1 buck in 12 ga 2 3/4's loads.
For 20 I would load either #3 or #4 buck. But if a company has found a way to make it work, heck run with it.

I'll shoot some on cardboard and report back.

That’s a good price for a 25 count.
I load #4 buck in 20 ga for my son - he kills rattlesnakes and feral hogs with them.

#3 is the gold standard for 2-3/4" 20ga. Some years ago on family property I had occasion to shoot 68 rounds at pigs. Net result? 77 dead hogs.

Shotguns are the only legal firearm to carry in my kayak on the river; hence my interest. I've killed pigs with 00 from a 12gauge but my only river guns now are a 20gauge and a .410 bore.

The first pic was at 20yards. The P shaped pattern isn't that great. The second pic was at 10 yards and not bad.. The single slug was fired from 20 yards, all shots fired from standing, quickly so I could get back to the AC....https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220618/827bd69a5f018ff0aa982ad6c061aced.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220618/6d98361d1ed7ecb4d533c1eb12e07455.jpg

That twenty yard pattern isn't that bad compared to an average cylinder bore twelve gauge load of 9 00 buckshot.

I agree. That is a nice find. With those #1's, the 20 ga with buck is more than just a coyote load. I would love to see a pattern from my Sav. 24v o/u which already patterns well enough for coyotes out to 35 yards+.

A few amounted to two or maybe three killed with one shot. Not that rare when they are in tight herds.

Maybe this belongs in Casting for Shotguns but it seemed relevant to this discussion. I have a 20 gauge buckshot load that works for me:
Win. HS hulls
W209
WAA20 minus the petals
18.5gr. Longshot
8 pellets (.311" WDWW from a Lee mold) Kind of "1/2 ought" size buck. I round it to "0".
Puts all of them in the C ring of an IPSC target at 30 yards with a modified tube in my Mossberg 500 YM. Most are in the A ring. A couple marathon casting sessions and I had enough for 14 boxes. It'll be a long time before I need to load them again.
Mods, Feel free to move this if you think it inappropriate.
Take care!

I believe Rio is loading the Monarch brand shotshells for Academy.
I’ve loaded #1B in 20ga for decades! I find my hand loads superior to factory #2’s or 3’s.
I remove the fins from a plastic shot cup. I load 10 .310” round ball cast from wheel weights with a Lee .31” 2-cav mold. I currently use LongShot powder.
20ga bore is .620”.
I’m three for three on deer (under 35yds) and 1 for 1 in pigs.
I also have a Lee 18-pellet gang mold for .24” round ball. Equals #4buck. Works good on armadillos and close in coyotes. I prefer the #1 though.
