found these at estate sale of son of former Raritan Arsenal employee - any info appreciated - vintage ?

Greetings,

Since the box specifically mentions "Black Powder", I believe these primers are made of Copper.

Not sure if the priming compound is Mercuric.

A great addition to your collection!

Nice, I was expecting to see some 40 year old CCIs...not quite what you have!

thanks for the replies -they are brass + not copper - used a magnifying glass + found a faded Oct. 1878 patent date - not a collector , but an accumulator that is running out of space + time

If the label states "black powder" then they post date the introduction of smokeless powder, probably post 1895-1900. Before there were two kinds of powder, smokeless and black, black powder was simply referred to as "powder".
