View Full Version : The greatest man

I'm writing this just after my dad drew his last breath. Alzheimers took him fairly quick; he's been in hospice care for the last two weeks.
I've worked for and met many rich and important people in my life but none will ever hold a candle to the Dust Bowl and Depression raised man who raised four boys and one girl with the help of my wonderful mother.
He served as a nurse at the army hospital in San Antonio during the Korean War. After that, a full time cattle farmer- first dairy; then beef only thank goodness!
He was strong as a bull or gentle as a lamb depending on the situation.
I'm sure that God is telling him "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
As Mom and his buddies show him around heaven.
Peace be with you all this morning.
God is great.

I too will offer my sincere condolences. My Dad was raised during the Depression. He was a WWII Vet. Parkinson's & Alzheimer's took him as well, when he was 80.
Your brief description of your father reflected a lot of how my Dad was.

I find myself missing him more than my Mother. My Dad was a great man in my eyes as well.

My you & yours find peace in the Lord. May your Dad RIP.

Words in consolation for the loss of a loved one don't come easily. I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your father, a good man. It is a blessing, really, that he passed so soon and avoided what could have been a lengthy battle with the terrible ordeal of Alzheimer's. I believe that when next you meet he will be perfect in all ways, and you will again enjoy his presence and friendship. I'll pray that God will console your family in your time of loss. Time will take away some of the pain, but the good memories will remain.

I’m sorry for your loss. Your father was one of the Greatest Generation. It sounds like he was a very good man in the most important ways. I lost mine seven years ago, and he to was from that generation. I’ll say a prayer for you, your father, and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dad's are so special and instrumental in guiding and teaching and turning boys into men. I lost my dad in '98 and still miss him; however I tell everyone that if ya listen to your heart your dad will still be there to guide you and comfort you. Once again I am so sorry for your loss. It hurts to be separated from his physical presence but rejoice that he is with our Lord and Savior in the place he said he would prepare for us. My dad passed in 90 and I still miss him.

Sorry for your loss of your father. I will include you and your family in my prayers. Know what you are going through. My father (WW II vet ) passed away March 16th of this year. One month later, my Mom passed away as well ( April 16th ). It has been difficult not to have them at their home for me to visit. However, I consider it a blessing that I had both of them around for such a long time. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Peace and Comfort to you neighbor.

My dad, will be 91 in July, is slipping. No diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia, but at that age, forgetful. I spend as much time as I can with him and mom (84). He still loves to go riding in his M38. Even tells me how to work on it, though I’ve been doing it for over 40 years! A great man amongst men.

I know that day is coming. It will still be tough. Like your’s, a tough and gentle man. 42 years in Army, retired CSM. Dad always gives the orders!

Prayers for your family, sounds like you enjoyed the time you had. Well done.

TbG ~ My sincere condolences. Your description of your Dad reminds me so much of my Dad. Born in NE Oklahoma in 1915, he had the experiences and qualities you saw in your Dad. Right now it may be of little comfort as pain always seems to flood over the moment, but I can tell you that the pride, respect, and love I found in my Dad has made a sweet memory for me. I miss him everyday, as I know you will, too, but now over the years his memory brings me only warm thoughts and deeply felt love. Prayers & thoughts. 725

Thomas I was so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. He sounds so much like my dad, who we lost in 2015. Not a day goes by I don’t think about him. Lot’s of wonderful memories and words of wisdom that seem wiser as time passes. Your dad is with our lord and savior in a much better place, and my friend he will always be with you. God bless you and yours!!
