This was supposed to be S&W's answer to the Remington 1100. What was the question.

My FIL had one that he used once and as usual he cleaned it and put it away. Next time out it wouldn't cycle, seemed there was a rubber bumper that got dissolved from the solvent. Quick repair with a new bumper and it was in action again.

The shotgun was made in Japan and had a beautiful finish. I later picked up a skeet model and the seller had me sign some release saying that it was sold as-is and no returns. Yes, the same bumper had turned into goo. A quick replacement and it was running.

I see these do not command much on the resale market. Any reason why?

I, too, really like S&W 1000 shotguns though you don't really see them for sale very often. The skeet models, however, do sell for good prices when they can be found. The 1000 looks a lot like a Remington 1100 but it is a better made shotgun than the 1100. There are far fewer S&W 1000's around than there are Rem. 1100's with a much easier parts availability and accessability factor favoring the 1100. This could be some of the reasons for the 1000 not getting top dollar in the resale market. The gas system on the 1000 was a very unique design at the time. I never had a malfunction in my 3inch mag. chambered 1000, no matter if I interchanged from a 3 inch shell to a 2 3/4 light skeet load out of the same magazine loading. All in all, the 1000 was a shotgun that was a joy to shoot, featured great workmanship and design but could not compete economically with the "punch press" shotguns coming out from the titans of the gun manufacturing business.
