I did some trading
As a guy I fish with is retired and a garage sale-aholic

He found a bunch of reloading supplies , lead and bullet molds that he didn't want

But he figured I would
Also he wanted sinkers and jigs

So we worked out a trade

The little bit of powder will make the garden grow better

Several molds I will need to degrease , as they look to be covered in a Red Grease
Also a couple of older single cavity Lyman molds that I will try

But what I was wondering about

This mold is unusable IMO
As it badly rusted , with large rust pits
I will most likely just recut the mold blocks to something I can use

It is a unmarked single cavity mold ( Lyman Blocks IMO )
Also there were a few cast from that mold loose in a box of lead ingots

These cast bullets are .309 as cast , I didn't see any that were lubed & sized
83 gr with a GC shank , a single grease grove that the bottom of the grease grove is the top of the GC

What would you use that bullet for ?

Thanks
John

Being that light, I'd guess they'd do OK in a .30 M1 carbine.
Or there be some .30cal. handgun out there from days gone by.

I sold a bunch of FMJ 90gr .308 bullets to someone for a pistol caliber, I just don’t remember which.

"single grease grove that the bottom of the grease grove is the top of the GC"
Almost sounds like a heeled .30 bullet. No idea what it might be used in.

Did he maybe have a small Martini that he shot? Some of those came over from Australia unmodified and used a heeled .30/.32 caliber boolit.

I am not sure
I got the mold & lead second hand
I never was at the house where the garage was located
I just traded for the molds and lead

Wouldn't the Mauser be in the .312 range? I thought most European 7.62 (30 cal) were a bit larger, .310-.314?

I sure would think it'd be for 30 carbine.

310 cadet is about 310 on the heel and 322 on the main bullet. Maybe something similar to 32 Colt instead?

311*419 for 32-20? Perhaps a "U" mold for a 30 Luger or Mauser/Tokarev? The description matches the mold, but it ought to be larger, as cast anyway.

I agree , a good chance this mold was for the 30 Carbine

But it will soon be a 9 mm mold
As I want to try a idea

It's a little small of diameter, but it's in the ball park for .32 acp. Maybe .30 Mauser?

An M1 carbine could use a .3075 bullet if the barrel is in great condition. Slightly larger if worn. That would be very light for a carbine, but should work. But remember, there are a number of .30 cal pistols out there that would be happy with a light .309 bullet.
