I don’t follow semi-auto of the week! I’m a revolver/Contender guy.
My summer carry gun is a Ruger LCP. Just wondering if anybody makes a 9mm suitable for pocket carry?

We have a couple that could be considered as “pocket” semi’s. We have a Khar, seems very reliable once broken in, as Khar suggests several hundred rounds. We didn’t experience any malfunctions during the suggested break in period! My wife doesn’t like the trigger pull (long and a bit heavy) though I can deal with it pretty well.

My wife bought herself a Sig 938, a wee bit larger but a great trigger pull for a small handgun! There is also a 22 LR upper you can buy for the 938, which offers low recoil, relatively low cost practice. The upper is “NOT” cheap! memtb

I have a Springfield Hellcat. I carry mine in my sweat pants pocket in a pocket holster at home (my 45 Auto is very close too) and have no problems. With the flat base mag it holds 11 in the mag. Is easy to shoot, has a reasonable trigger, 3 inch barrel, sights easy to see and I can do decent with it at 50 yards offhand slowfire and up close it makes me look good in reasonable fast shooting since I dont practice the machine gunning game with a handgun. Just enough to be able to protect myself. I carry a 45 Auto as a primary carry gun I am of average weight and height so no need of a "pocket gun" as a primary carry gun.
I love my Hellcat. I have a Glock M48 that is very nice too. It is a 4 inch though.
Check out the Hellcat.

The only pocket 9 that I have personal experience with is the Kahr CM-9. It is the smallest "pocketable" concealment 9mm firearm that I have used. I found it to be just a little too small for me, but reliable, I had no malfunctions in shooting up a box of Winchester 115 JHP. It is lighter, cheaper, slightly shorter than the Hellcat and slightly thinner, but it only holds 6+1 rounds versus 11+1. It also only comes with one magazine. That may be important to you if you plan on missing a lot and never reloading. To me, having carried a J-frame anything over 5 rounds is a blessing.

I am considering a Hellcat in my future, albeit not as a pocket pistol , due to the excellent accuracy I have seen them produce. Several guys at the gun club have them and do enviable work with them, but for now, my pocket gun remains the Ruger LCP, which is small enough to be indistinguishable as a gun and is much lighter than either the Kahr or Hellcat.

To be honest though, for CCW, I mostly carry revolvers in an IWB holster, usually a Colt Agent or Cobra, but when it gets sweaty-hot. I break out a Model 60. I have over 50 years experience with round guns and I like the "6 (or 5) for sure" aspect, as well as the skills and habits long practice has produced. I carry a reload or two, but as a strictly civilian gun carrier these days I can not envision any realistic circumstance that I may find myself in that would require me to fire my weapon empty and then reload it and empty it again.

Ruger Ec9s is my carry gun. It is a bit heavy for a small pocket gun but it works every time flawlessly with my hand loads and factory equally well. The little sucker is accurate too.

Fits in my pocket nicely in a Clinger holster, no snags even remotely with it!

The Springfield Hellcat is a nice pistol and able to be carried in a pocket. I like mine.

The Springfield XDS was my carry gun for quite a while and it comes in 9 or 45. When I want a small 45 I pocket carry it and it works great. Hard to beat but the Hellcat fits me much better.

As an aside, I have also carried a ultralight .38 revolver a lot, also pocket carry. I promise nobody will notice although at first you will be sure everyone can see it. Add a pocket holster and it's invisible.

I am specifically talking about front pocket carry. Back pocket does not work for me at all.

The Ruger EC9s is about as small as they get and can be easily carried in a pocket. It is intended for pocket carry with rounded edges and small sights to avoid getting snagged on stuff when you draw it out. I prefer the jeans or pants they sell at Duluth Trading. Duluth makes several types with extra heavy duty pocket liners that don't wear out and get holes in them fast. I also use a pocket holster to carry the guns in my pockets. But with that said the Kimber Micro 9 series has several versions that fit in a pocket too. I like their Kimber Rapide version myself. You can also pocket carry the Glock 43 or 43X or MOS version too. Smith and Wesson makes a sub compact M&P Shields 2.0 that fits in pockets too.

But I prefer to pocket carry the sub compact .45's that are out there. My first pocket carry is a Springfield XDS mod.2 in 45 ACP (it holds ten rounds too). Then there is the Rock Island Armory BBR 1 .45acp (it also holds 10 rounds too). Then there is the EAA Girsan MC1911 SC Ultimate .45acp and it is just as small as the others. The Kimber Ultra Carry II is another .45acp one as well.

Now if you are wearing tight fitting pants with small pockets or shorts, you will have to go with something even smaller though. The guns I mention work best with loose fitting comfort style pants with larger pockets.

I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a micro 9. My head is spinning from thinking to much about which one. I think I might get a P365 with a manual safety. The grip kinda feels too small but I’m sure I’ll get use to it. I had a beretta nano and loved the size and how it fit in my pocket. It shot a foot high at 10 yards so I get rid of it. I’d take another if could get my hands on one and see If I could figure out the POA issues I had. I ordered a DB9 Gen 4 l last week and it came in with dremel marks all over the barrel from factory. I passed on it. Figured for a $250 13 oz 9mm it already had the righting on the wall that it had issues. I am also debating on the Glock 43 and 26, the sig 938,…and??? Just wanted to stick with 9mm since I have piles of brass, powder, and sone SP primers to keep me content for the summer. I do like the new S&W CSX but have seen to many YouTubers show the triggers not resetting.

Again, Kel-Tec.

They discontinued the pistol. Not available anywhere I did an internet search. I bought a PMR 30 and it went back to the factory the same day for failure to feed issues. Went back three times in a row within a month. They ended up refunding me directly. I swore off Kel-Tec after that. I have squirt guns with more durable construction.

Have a Beretta Nano and it shoots to POA. Two issues I had with it was the recoil spring assembly's thin face sheared off and tied up the gun. Other issue was I lost the rear night sight, while shooting in tall grass. It was only held in with a tiny set screw.

Purchase two recoil assemblies from Brownells and use one for practice and one for carry. The rear sight I replaced with a standard rear and loctited it in place. Added a Laserguard for low light capabilities, for a few dollars more than a rear night sight would have cost.

My other carry semi auto is a Kahr CM-9...........IMO, both the Hellcat and the Sig 365 defeat the purpose of a lightweight carry piece. Yeah they weigh in the neighborhood of 20 ounces but that's unloaded. Those extra rounds sure add up fast.

Being a Southpaw, I have no use for any levers on the sides of pistols. Plus, they add to the width. YMMV

I've got a S&W Shield I carry a lot. Surprised by its accuracy, totally reliable, might be a bit big for some pockets. Mine has a safety, I mostly ignore the safety unless holstering or setting on table or shelf.
I take the safety off after holstering.

Guess I’ll be putting off my purchase for a while. While googling the P365 and Karhr cm9 the new Walther WMP popped up. Watched a few YouTube videos on how well it cycles all 22mr ammo. Called my local Cabelas and they got their first and only one in the day before. I bought it over the phone for $499. I will pick it up Friday or Monday on the way through to visit relatives. I did some more reading and after a few phone calls I found out Walther doesn’t offer or make a red dot plate for leupold for some reason. I have a 3.5 mm delta point I wanted to use on it. Guess I’ll have to sell it and use the the money for a tijicon, holosun, or vortex since that’s the only plates offered. Also it doesn’t have a manual safety for some goofy reason. Figured a 28 oz heavy barreled pistol that most will use for small game hunting would have one instead of a Glock type safety. At least I watched a guy shoot his a 1000 times on YouTube and only had ONE FTF with non recommended ammo. Sounds like a winner!

I had a chance to pick up a Glock 43 for the first time yesterday along the side of a P365. Boy that glock with the wider grip sure fits in my big hand better and I can see the white sites easily. That’s the issue with just about all of the micro 9’s…I can’t see the sites after Lasik surgery. I can see a country mile now but fuzzy up close. I need reading glasses now where before I didn’t. Just wish it had a manual safety and held a few more. The trigger on the Glock was horrible compared to the P365. I can see the p365 sites but they sure don’t stand out and I almost have to look for them. The Glock comes up natural and quick for me. Most switch out the factory glock sites but I like them. Guess I could do a 25 cent trigger job like in my 20. Think I’m leaning toward the 43. Time will tell once my guns get sold hopefully in the next week. Figure if I’m going to buy a carry pistol I am planning on trusting my life on I want to spend a little more on a reliable pistol. Seems like from what I’ve read the Glock and Sigs seems to function the most reliable out of all the micro 9’s. I like the Kahr cm9 but my smith says he has had a lot of them in his shop because they wont feed and function properly.

I like this one!...lol

I bought a kimber micro9 a few years back and have usually carried in one of a couple of holsters. Way shooting it the other day and had the nylon holster it came with. Got to looking and took off the metal belt clip (its switchable left to right) then put in the 6 round mag that is slightly recessed. The dang gun surprised me by fitting I a couple pair of my jeans. With the extended 7 or 8 round mags its long, but heck I can put 7 in it and have spare 8 round and be a pocket gun. I've got a couple of taurus Spectrums in 380 that are slightly larger.

Pocket 9 choices.

These days, we have more choices in a pocket 9mm handgun than one can shake a stick at. And that's a good thing. I don't think there is a one 'best' in the bunch, I don't care who built it. Sure, there are some I wouldn't advise a friend on buying, but I'll keep those thoughts to myself. Others may own that very gun and love it. To each their own.

I think the things a person needs to consider is, what works for them? Will you buy it, take a couple of boxes of ammunition to the range and test it for reliability? Will you spend the money for the expensive carry ammunition you intend to carry in it to bet your life on and test it? How often do you intend to shoot it to feel proficient with it?

That being said, none of us are built alike. I've been called 'ham fisted' since I was a kid, I'm 68 now and my hands haven't shrank a bit. Getting into one of my front pockets pronto isn't always easy, add to that I'm trying to get a hold of my weapon and pull it out, quickly.

Pick a gun you like and are comfortable with. Learn to dress around the gun, shoot it often when possible to stay proficient with it.

I have never seen a pocket 9mm that I consider to be shootable enough for me to practice with it. It's just too much power in a little jumpy package. Of course, it could be that I am too particular about how small a gun has to be before I would consider it pocket-worthy. To me, a gun isn't a pocket gun unless it fits comfortably and concealably in my smallest pockets. The fact that I can shove a pistol into the massive pockets on some of my jeans doesn't really qualify anything for pocket status.

Some people are hard to satisfy. Unless something is near perfect it is useless to them. I like my Hellcat. It shoots as well as I can hold it and conceals in clothes I wear. But then again I have been carrying a 5 inch 1911 45 Auto OWB. I sometimes carry it IWB too. I have smaller 1911's in 45 Auto too. But as a "pocket" pistol I like the Hellcat.

Some small 9’s are much more comfortable to shoot than similarly sized 380’s. Try shooting an AMT SS .380…..painful!

If you have the opportunity…..go to a gun store or shooting range that offers handguns you can shoot. You may find something that will work great for you in a “pocket carry” 9mm! Just a thought! memtb

Well I just sold two guns here in the last couple of days to put money towards a conceal and carry so game is back on! Still leaning towards the Glock 43 or P365. Just wish I had a place around me where I could try and shoot them both and see which one I like or if I like either.

I want to go extremely small and prefer a manual safety. The 43 is longer than the P365 and no manual safety. The 43 fits my hand better than the thin grip on the P365. If the sig had a wider grip I would have already bought it. My hands are just a little to big for the sig but figured maybe I’d get use to it. None of the other 9’s really do it for me accept for the S&W CSX. Fits my hand great and has a safety. Kinda heavy and I’ve read and watched YouTube showing there are trigger reset issues with it.

The only time I pocket carry is at home. I never pocket carry any other time. It is too hard to get it out of the pocket. Especially when seated in a car. Holster carry for me. I am almost 70 and still can carry a 5 inch 1911 without any problem. And a M69 Smith. When I got my Hellcat and the M48 Glock I carried them a couple time just to try them. They are nice but I carried them IWB. The two guns I carry most are a Glock M30 and a 4 or 5 inch 1911. No pocket carry for me outside the home base. Even then I have my primary carry gun very close by.

Pocket carrying while sitting is no problem when using pants with cargo pockets. I use the square cut Mika pocket holsters. I even had Mika add another inch to one of his square cut designs. Different pants, require a different width, to prevent rotation and retention of the holster on the draw. I carry almost 100% of the time in a pocket holster. Almost all waking hours there is a pistol in my pocket.
