I've got some .44 cal 265 gr plain base Ranch Dog boolits that I cast water dropped with 50/50 alloy and 2x coats of BLL. I'm wondering how fast I can push these, if at all, in the .44 Magnum. I don't want max velocity but I was hoping to be able to get to the middle of the range in the Lyman manual with H110, which would be 22.0 gr. at about 1200 fps. Will this alloy be ok there?

Your BHN is certainly sufficient, as long as they are sized appropriately for your gun they should be good to go for as full of a magnum load as you want to run.

50/50 WW and pure? I’d say you won’t get to 1000fps without leading.

Yes, 50/50 WW and pure.

Fit trumps hardness .
If the size is right , 50-50 simply air cooled should be around bhn 8 ...water dropped might bump it up to say bhn 9 . Ben's Liquid Lube should / might be able to take 1200 fps velocity ... I don't know I don't use BLL .
Ben's Red Lube would work . I use Lithium-Beeswax Lube (Lithi-Bee) a lot and it will take that velocity .
If the fit is proper and the lubricant up to the job , 1200 fps should be doable .
If the lube starts running out at the end of the barrel ...you may need to try a different lube .
Maybe a few BLL users will chime in on the velocities it will tolerate .

Fit is King today, not hardness. Make sure your boolits are sized for your gun barrel by slugging it.

Then PC every one! Forget old school grease lubes. There are guys on here that say they are running 10-12 hardness lead over 2,200FPS with PC. I have never done it personally, (I use FMJ's for high velocities) but they say it works. PC offers amazing protection for your barrels and saves on expensive hard lead.

When working up to 7.5 unique in my 44 special Blackhawk, using a 44-250-k RCBS bullet of 50/50 ww/pb, I had leading starting at around 7 grains and getting worse as pressure increased. Now that doesn’t mean you will. It just means my gun and I did. I was sizing Lars 50-50 lube.

I use that same boolit and powder charge. From a Ruger Hunter model I am getting high 1300's to 1400 fps. Not exactly a squib load.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will powder coat and work my way up.
