I will admit they are great at rat and mice extermination .
And if you have a feral cat problem ... when they come to town the feral cats dissapear .
I can't see the tip of the tail ...is it the grey fox has black tip and red fox has white tip ?
I'm going to guess that is a vey cool grey fox . Handsome looking animal .

I looked out my back door to see a baby possum sitting in the cats food bowl eating left-over cat treats ... I wanted to name him Pedro ( he looked like a Pedro) and adopt him ...but the wife wouldn't even talk about it ... why can't we keep him ...Because I Said So ... she won again !

Nice looking fox! Where there's one there's usually more, although they don't heavily populate. I saw a coyote here about 3 days ago, just sauntered past my office window. Still had his/her winter coat.

Usually not good to see a fox in the day time. They are nocturnal so should not be out in the sun. We have had several people attacked by rabid foxes during the day on their farms. Plus foxes do kill ground nesting birds of all kinds.

A lot depends on what they prey on. Here they eat a lot of ground squirrels and birds so there is a lot of daytime activity.

He was here pretty early. I see their poop regularly but this is the first time our paths crossed. Mountain Lion come through regularly too but I've only seen one up close once. I see tracks in the driveway where they have chased deer.

Lots of rats and mice here, I hope the foxes get their fill. Also rabbits, squirrels and quail, too many for a few foxes to make a dent. Saw the first of the baby quail this month, they look like walnuts running around, their heads and feet too small to see.

I'm sure I miss a lot of critters, I get involved with projects and don't look up. I think the animals sense this and are taking advantage. This guy was sunning himself on my car when I got home from work a week ago.

A nice gray fox.
While it's not quite normal,, it's NOT a sign of rabies when you see one out during the daytime. But,, it's always prudent to be cautious around ALL mammals that can be rabies vectors.
I normally tell folks to;
"Watch, take pictures,, but do not feed or approach."

I have a bunch of red fox around me. I catch them often in my live traps that I use to get rid of the coons in my sweet corn. The coons go in the freezer and the fox go free. I thought fox were smart, but I catch the same ones over and and over again. But then again they are smart. They just sit there as I open the cadge and they just run out about 20 feet and stop and look at me and give me a see you tomorrow when you replace the bait look.

I had a female living in the barn last year - she gave birth there then moved the kits at some point. Aside from watching, I left her alone.

Coyotes will kill them so pregnant fox mamas will often move close to a habitation to stay safe - although 'yotes will often come right up to a house. I've seen them near our dog fence many times; I walked into a large pack behind my shop several years ago - I stood still and they left quietly. No casualties that day...

I've seen 1 Coyote in 37 years here, I think the cougars keep them under control. This place is lousy with deer. Coyote may be a delicacy.

The deer are hanging close to my house, may be a lion about. 2 are spikes but mostly it's does.

Fox is always looking for a handout. Vixen used to show up 5 minutes before feeding horses and check for scattered feed and bugs after the horses were done. Dead of winter they check fresh dropings for feed and bugs. Grey will climb the fruit trees to eat ripe fruit. Around here if it ain't got a white tail tip it's a grey. We got a bad rabies problem around here so they bear watching.

I feed three gray foxes popcorn about every day. Last night one stayed about 20 feet away while I poured out the popcorn.

It is funny how wildlife moves in. We have our share of deer, possums, coons, chucks, and so on. The most interesting is a bat (or more then one?).

We have a motion detecting light at the top of the driveway. And lately have been getting droppings right below it. Took a bit but figured that there is a bat that uses the light to draw in prey.

And of course leaves his traces behind.

Smart bat, flies in front of the light which then turns on. Sucks up the bugs and hangs out. Poops and is gone by morning.

May look for him/her sometime. Wish the little bugger well...

Actually,, bats like to find a spot during the night to "rest & digest" after successful feeding. They find a spot with the right temperature & such,, land,, digest,, and leave their guano. Then they continue feeding. But they go to a daytime roost for longer time periods.

Had just returned to my truck after an evening hunt. Something "fell out of the sky" with a thud onto the hood and hit the ground by the front tire as I shed gear into the back seat. A quick flashlight and on the ground were two entangled bats. They lit out of there so fast I could not tell if they were mating or fighting.

I would have loved to take a young fox as a pet - or an otter.

When I used to train with the CA Army Guard at Camp Roberts, we had the tiny Kit foxes, along with elk and raccoon. I once arrived at the main gate at night, where the floodlights shine all night, and saw a kit fox catching bugs that were attracted to the light.
