Anybody here use 5744 in the 44, 45, or 454? I use it for reduced loads in rifles, seems like it would be of good use here with boolits too, maybe not maximum velocities, but work well. If anyone has any insights fill me in.
Thanks

Greetings Heavy Lead....
I use 5744 in my S&W 44 Russians to duplicate BP ... works great.. I use it also in my 41 mag Marlin for Full case light loads. Should work OK in your cases.
I have not looked in 2 years but I think ACC still has the load recomends at their web sight.
I have used it in my Trapdoor and Rolling blocks so it seems rather versitle and seems to ignite easy enough.
Keeping the fire stoked?

Yup, fires on, it's been cold this winter. A good old fashioned one.
Thanks

I have used 5744 in my Ruger SBH in 44mag and have noticed alot of unburned powder.I don't recall the charge used but I tried it for IHMSA field pistol shoots so it was'nt full charges.
i'm going to try Unique this year

The Ballastician over there is a real nice guy if you push the contact button on the web sight and ask him to reccomend a load with 5744 he gets right back to you. As I recall his name is Johann

You know I ended up with a can of this when I was messing around with some Light load test with a 223 for prairie dog shooting,I'm in Central NC,I sure would like to trade it to some one for something that would work in a 38 Special Cowboy Load,/using a 125gr.lead Bullet!
Mission 5155,you can have if you drop by for a spell!
God Bless you to!

I too tried 5744 in my 454 SRH in a 1400fps load. Lots of unburned powder. That's OK for deer hunting, but I wouldn't try shooting 100 rounds of it.

Marsofold. What were your pressure signs with that load? I'm wondering if these cases of unburned powder might indicate the best pressure range of this powder to be higher. Other threads have indicated that even Accurate has recommended much bigger charges of 5744 than usually listed. (as much as 7 grains in a .338).

I used it in 45-70 and 44 mag. It gave fairly respectable velocities at full power in the 44 mag. No matter what I tried I ended up with a lot of unburned powder. On one occasion it jammed up the revolver. After that bottle had been used I never went back to it. For reduced loads now I either use a pinch of Unique or a case full of TrailBoss.

Used it in a SKS with the Lee .312-185-R for a 1500 fps load. Nice 3" round group @ 50 yds. with issue sights. No unburned powder to speak of.
