I'm done with this outfit; SHIPPING!!!! They are using the "UPS innovation" method to ship AND making it almost impossible to NOT ROUND UP for the NRA. I and I alone decide who I spend my money with, and the NRA ISN'T where I donate any longer. They get rid of Wayne and I'm back on board.
Back to the shipping; I live ~350 miles from Midway USA and their method of shipping is now taking 7 days to arrive. I ordered a small order on Friday night and it's scheduled to arrive next Friday. Used to be, I got deliveries in 2 days. I get stuff off Ebay quicker than Midway can get it to me.
And for those reasons, I'm out!

Might want to send this to Midway in an E-mail ...
Loosing a customer and they might not even notice .
They get enough lost revenue from disgruntled customers and they might change their ways .
Whenever I get abused by a company .. I send them a E-mail and tell them why ... now . it may not do much good but at least some one at the company knows I have a problem and don't like it .
I haven't done much business with Midway lately ... but they used to be fairly sympathetic ...
ever since they started charging extra for shipping it seems things have slid downhill .
Not sure what the problem is ... I'm a very patient person ...so waiting a week for something doesn't upset me ... Heck ...I order Randall Made Knives that take 5 years to get delivered ... two weeks is overnight in my mind .

Yeah, service from Midway has declined over the years (decades) and is my very last resort. I doubt if they care about a 'lost customer'. But one should do what makes YOU feel better, take your money elsewhere but consider all of the costs. A few pennies saved may not be worth the aggravation of the 'wait'!

I've always had good service from them. Yes, if you use the default low-cost free shipping, then they use that silly "innovations" shipping system which just adds delay. But I've always found that the difference in that shipping to my remote Alaskan location and USPS Priority mail is generally on the order of $2. So I always pay for Priority Mail, and my stress level stays very low.

its convenient that they have so many different things but prices are a bit higher than mid south or powder valley. every time I say im done shopping with them something else come across my radar that I gotta have or makes reloading a bit easier or something like that. but I'm at a point im my life that I dont rush to do much of anything.
things might sit in the mailbox for a week before I go out and empty it.
I heard a story about being in a rush that I'll share
the old bull was sitting on top of the ridge looking down in the valley and his son come running up to him.
the son say paw look at all those good looking cows down in the valley, lets go run down there and visit with one of em.
and the old wise bull says to his eager young son
no son, lets walk down there and visit with all of em.

Both true Derek; but I only live ~350 miles from them and a week to ship is EXCESSIVE IMO. Shipping First Class only speeds them up a couple of days. As I said, *bay stuff is most often cheaper and shipped faster in my experience. I decided to give Midway another shot, my bad.

At one time I ordered gun parts from Midway for my home gunsmith shop. I cut back my spending with them when they sent emails to customers receiving discounts to “become retail customers.” The letter tried to convince me that I would get better prices due to sales and free shipping. Maybe they thought my math skills were really bad. If I buy from Midway again it will be because no other source had what I wanted.

I’m seldom in a rush for the few items I order online, unless the promised delivery date is pushed back a week. Even then it rarely matters other than I expect companies and people to live up to their word. That said, poorly packaged deliveries are a major irritant to mine. Many companies have deals with shippers for reduced rates because of the volume they ship. Those deals account for a lot of delays.

Yep, I just went in, looked at my cart and started to check out. Turning off the NRA round up happened with the click of a button and I have 5 different shipping options. 3 of the options list getting the package 2 days to 7 days out. It's not really Midways fault if you select an option that can take 2 to 7 days. Midway isn't delivering the items on their trucks.

So I'm confused , when did a week from order till delivery become an unreasonable amount of time ?

Hasn't been all that long since most everything was 4-6 weeks after they recieved your check and order form in the mail .

i week to your door is good these daze!

Like said, in the past I always figured 2-3 weeks, what with check clearance waiting, picking, packing, and shipping via ground.

Cc's sped that up a lot.

All the many industrial products I provide to our many customers take 2-3 weeks ARO for stock items, unless they pay for expedited on-house processing and shipping via UPS red.

Normal for industry

Yup, I just placed an order last night and that's what I did. I did need it in 2 days so I paid extra for that.

Shipping in general over the last couple of years has gotten really slow except for Amazon and they use their own trucks or they have specific contracts with the various carriers.

It took the PO 2 1/2 weeks to get a first class letter about 50 miles last month.

Everybody can have good or bad experiences with any company.

Expectations vary from person to person as well.

Shipping an item costs money. In many ways,, shipping expenses have risen so much that it's a serious consideration when buying anything anymore.
And,, HOW an item is shipped is OFTEN out of the hands of a company once it leaves their facility. If it's going to a USPS box,, then it can get routed several hundred miles to bigger hubs for sorting,, to where bulk mailings get sent to smaller hubs & such. Just because a company is 50, 100, 200 or even 300 miles away,, does NOT mean it'll take a direct route to the destination.

There are ways to "smart shop" and avoid may issues. A good example is mentioned above,, by choosing YOUR preferred method of shipping. You may pay a little more,, but it can arrive quicker. Another way of smart shopping is to wait for specials,, or free shipping, or other things that save money or time.

Times have changed. Shipping used to be primarily USPS. Then along came private carriers. Each company has their own rules,, and at the same time,, MUST be able to ship stuff efficiently to make money. And in todays society,, a LOT of stuff is ordered "on-line," or via some form of shipping. Many brick & mortar stores have closed BECAUSE people have switched to different shopping methods.

Midway is not a bad company,, and they do try to offer a fair price on many items. Shipping is part of the process. Shop smartly,, and you can avoid problems, headaches, & lower expenses. This is also true of many other companies.

I am around 300 miles from Midway. If I place an order and go the cheap route, it takes 4 to 6 days, UPS then USPS final delivery.
If I add a box of 22 ammo or something that requires ground shipping along with my order, it often arrives the next day, two at the latest. Yes it costs a little more, but if I want it quick, it works.

Have you bought any gasoline ot diesel lately?
Ifso, you should have realized that prices are DOUBLE from this time last year. Wages overall are up also. Boxes are more expensive.

I ship in small padded 6x9 envelopes. Have ordered from same seller on Ebay 3 times now. Order I bought this month cost me 20% than 6 months ago,and yes, he is cheapest seller I've found.

I just bought $19 worth of stuff from Titan. Shipping was $10, tax 1.70 and I was over $30 for two small items. 4 days. Which is quick, but was priority mail.
I try to keep my shipping down, but it isn't easy.
Midway can be expensive, but you pick speed.... and pay for it. Those that ship free, charge you inside the total. I sure do.

We NEED MidwayUSA as a source for net-based price comparing. Like the JCPenney or Sears Catalog of old, but digital, with photos, and "on demand". Same can be said for their on-line competition, and there are SO MANY. Price shop - for certain!

Wholesale buying, retail selling, and Shipping ==> TWO YEARS AFTER the "Plandemic", the fear mongering, forced shutdowns, no work, layoffs, no pay, our government PAID people to stay home, a very "slow thaw", no availability of supplies, rapidly rising prices, rapidly increasing inflation, soaring fuel prices, ALL of it...welcome to SOCIALISM and the (@#$&%)^2 New Normal.

Midway has zero control of an items once it leaves Midway's shipping department. I always shop price. During normal times 12ga 3 1/2 come from Rodgers ports, bullets and powderd come from both Midsouth and Powdervalley. BD comes from Powder Inc. Most orders are for 32 pounds of power too hold down the cost. Midway generally as a better inventory daily. The no-sale prices are normally at little higher but with sales and or promo codes they can be significantly cheaper then the others. I also order a fair bit from Brownnels and Amazon.

"Midway has zero control of an items once it leaves Midway's shipping department." Absolutely true; but it's sorta like a bait and switch scenario. They ship with the knowledge that their "free" shipping (which is factored into the cost of the merch.) is analogous to the proverbial "slow boat from China". AND since the "free shipping" is already included in the cost of the product, it AIN'T free AND it's slow.

Land Owner

Then how about totally supporting your local Ammo Supplier and Gun Retailer? Give them 100% of your business - no questions asked. Help them get "back on their feet" so to speak. Purchase ONLY what they offer. Get with them to offer you what you want to purchase. Then, when you walk out of their store after making your purchase, you will have INSTANT GRATIFICATION.

sparky45
05-18-2022, 10:29 AM
That's what I do actually (when they have the item(s) ) . I suppose you prefer to wait 8 days (maybe longer) to get a item you need/want, and you only live ~350 miles from his business.. Potterfield loves your devotion and markets his "great contribution" to NRA (which you pay, HE DOESN'T) .

Land Owner
05-18-2022, 10:46 AM
Your radius from his business is not local and in that you pay the freight just like everyone. I supported Potterfield while he was building his business, when shipping was a portion of the purchase price (in some instances still is), before these indefinite political and "wellness" times, when availability, price, warehousing, stockmen, inflation, and shipping were relaxed. No longer. The pendulum has swung to expense, queue, and wait. There will be an uncertain time to rebound, and the pendulum may never fully swing back to reasonable, available, and ready.

I've had just the opposite experience from Midway. They confirm an order, notify when it's shipped, and give a tracking number and expected date of delivery. More times than not the package shows up 2 or 3 days before the anticipated delivery date. That is not to say that the occasional package hasn't gone astray; but not from just Midway, but others as well, and that's the Post Office's fault. Midway just moved and is reorganizing their shipping. I expect improved service from them in the future, but not the Post Office!

I just checked; my package is setting in a P.O. ~85 miles from me AND has been for the last 3 days. MidwayUSA uses this type of "free" shipping so they stay in the ballpark with other online retailers. Yeah, it gets out of Midway's hands usually fairly quickly, but they KNOW its going to bottleneck down the road. The old "it's not Midway's fault" is a false narrative, they KNOW this will happen and they still allow it. I have never experienced this type of shipping arrangement with other sellers, not even *bay.

Just for the record ;) -- I placed an order with MidwayUSA on line on Saturday 14 May 2022 -- this, after dinner (maybe 7:30PM EDT?) and wife and I went shopping this morning (20 May 2022) and -- guess what -- the package from MidwayUSA was on my porch landing! Five and one-half days?
Not tooooo shabby, imho. Bion, dealing with MidwayUSA has never given me a warm and fuzzy feeling ;) -- but it is their quick, reliable shipping which makes me coming back. A few years back I got a 100-box of brass with 90 cases in it. A 10% shortage, I rang their customer service and the lady advised they neither would nor could just send me the missing 10 cases. Instead I was given the choice of full $$$-credit for that purchase towards any future purchase -- or -- they'd send a replacement box. I elected the latter, and but a very few days later -- it was delivered.
I reckoned I'd share my experience(s) with MidwayUSA.

I've also considered Midway's shippping to be poor in the past, but I think things may have changed. Ordered about $100 worth of stuff on 5-18 and everything was delivered on 5-20. Prices were as good as any other vender I checked, or at least close enough that the "free" shipping made up for the difference. There was a hole about 1" in diameter from something poking through the box, but nothing lost or damaged. I can't fault Midway for that.

That was true for awhile. They had so much pushback or lost business they change that. The last order I placed with Midway they were the cheapest for actual cost and shipping. A couple of places had it cheaper but it was not in stock. The Midway shipping was $7.70. Grafs had the item in stock for the same price but their shipping was $12.95.

I placed an order on May 19th, two different hearing protections and a pilot for my Lyman trimmer. They arrived today, May 21st. They were packed very well and everything arrived perfectly. I have never had a problem. I do live just down I 70 in central KS if that makes a difference.

The only problem I ever had with Midway is when they sold some "exclusive" red dot scopes they don't carry any more, I believe, they were were junk but they did replace the junk one with another junk one that I ended up with after warranty of course.

Hi folks, not sure what to say or how to put it. But shipping costs have gone through the roof. I have my own business that ships to customers on a regular basis. And receives from suppliers the same. The cost of shipping used to be minor, now it is a major event. The cost is ridiculous.

Back to Midway, at least they have items in stock. Maybe because their ship cost is a little higher. But at least I can get what I need. I have no issue with them.

Note that USPS has publicly stated that they are going to extend the time it takes to ship items. And it is already occurring, two-day Priority Mail is taking 3 to 4 days.

At this point I'm glad to get what I order. It may seem like I'm giving up, but not really. Reality is changing.

I fear that we are all going to see the day in this country when we will look back and wonder how we could have been so petty to worry about a few days, or even weeks of shipping time to receive goods that were SOOOOO unimportant and recreational.

When the insulin hasn't showed up for three weeks, or the electricity doesn't work on your allotted day, or when the only pumps with gas are fifty miles down the road --- then you'll have a cause to bitch. And it still won't do any good. jd

I ordered 3 individual Lee dies from them that come from the factory in the little single die cases. Midway packed them in a loose fitting plastic bag, about a 1.5 gallon size. No packing material at all, except the packing slip. The bag survived the shipping, but the dies didn't. One die was still in its little case, the other 2 had come out of their cases and evidently had banged around and hit everything between them and me. They were all scratched up, the die threads had nicks all over them. One lock ring looked like it had been sanded. Sent them back for a refund, they complied. Packing dept fail.

Just received their latest flier in the mail, a tiny subset of their catalog of old, with pretty pictures and questionable "percentage OFF" of prices not even shown. The flier is, imo, worthless and with very little substance, which, after a cursory glance goes straight to the round file.

Recession, inflation, staff shortages, product availability, shipping suspense, increasing fuel costs, and why bother to advertise IN PRINT if the price of goods is forever changing in a volatile market?
