Anyone own a S/W 9mm EZ?

As I get older, my hand strength is not what it used to be. Do any of you guys own the Smith EZ line of guns?

I bought a 9mm EZ for the Wife. She has several issues that make using guns hard. We haven't shot it a whole lot, so the jury is still out. One of the problems we had with it was the short grip. I bought some mag. extenders so her little finger has something to "hang on to". It makes the gun much easier to grip. The little pieces of plastic are spendy with shipping! It's her first experience with an auto handgun, so we're learning to do a SAFE way for her to get and keep the gun in firing condition. (Keep fingers out of the way of moving parts and the front of the gun while trying to find ways she still has enough hand strength to make it work.)

Our shooting range opens for the season this week, so we'll be going as much as gas$ will let us.

Her gun was part of a recall by S&W over some small parts. Her's checked out ok and was back to us pretty quick.

I like having several spare magazines for all such guns. I couldn't find the EZ9 mags anywhere when we first got the gun. (Almost got bit by some scam place that claimed they had them at a great price.) We had the 2 that came with the gun and they kept working. I had LOTS of calls in to S&W customer service (?) trying to get a couple of extras ordered. They were no help. I'd have thought they'd send me some just so their phone would stop ringing. This went on for over a year! Then one day I walked by the mag. shelf at SWH and they had 3 in stock. I bought 2 of them, all the $ I had at the time. Went back a week later and all were gone.

I bought her a "plastic" holster for it but we haven't gotten that far in our training. There didn't seem to be much selection for holsters that fit it when we bough the gun.

I bought her a S&W LadySmith .38 before we got married. She thinks my 657 is her bedroom gun and she bought her own 329 in case a bear gets me down. She knows how to shoot revolvers, but the semi-auto is taking some time to get worked out.

We've sold bunches of EZ's at my side job shop, no complaints so far. Although I doubt most people who buy it are going to be putting thousands of rounds downrange.

My wife bought herself an EZ in .380, and liked it so well she went out and bought herself one in 9x19, but she hasn't had a chance to get the 9mm to range, yet. I have a friend who has the same issues with hand strength after taking a bad fall a while back. He bought an EZ for himself, and after his wife tried it, they bought her one, too.

My EZ has a few features I really like, over my regular Shield. One, I can reach the mag release button, without a lot of juggling, loosing my grip, and mag drops like a ton of bricks regardless whether fully loaded or empty. The safety lever is easily accessible (far easier than on the Shield) and the mags don't require a loader unless you add an extension.

I bought the EZ in 30SC. I first thought the EZ Shields were striker fired and really didn’t want one. But…when I found out they were hammer fired I bought and have been pleasantly surprised by it.

The EZ part comes from it being hammer fired by a small internal hammer. The hammer gets fully cocked in the first bit of racking the slide when the recoil spring is the least compressed. After the slide rides over the hammer, only the recoil spring is being compressed. The gun is not real small so there is plenty to grab on to. It’s not magically super easy, but it is noticeably easier to rack than most.

The trigger is not as mushy as a striker fired gun.
The weird grip safety hinged at the bottom works well.
It’s ugly.
Accuracy looks promising in the 11 rounds I’ve fired.
So far I’m liking it.

Don’t own one , but have handled them and sold quite a few, with no complaints after the sale. I like some of the features, like the loaded chamber indicator, and the easy to use safety, and the fact that you can load and unload with the safety on. All good features for the first time gun buyers.

Mine won't win an accuracy contest by any means, but at across the house distances, its accurate enough.

My wife went this same route: 380 first, then 9mm. Both are reliable and she likes them.

I have the EZ 9 that I got for my girlfriend to use. She is petite with small hands. She didn't like the safety grip as she doesn't have the hand strength to be comfortable with it. Got her the 380 EZ and the same thing. I now use the 380 as a pocket pistol in my Duluth cargo pants for doc appointments and such. She ended up with the S&W 38 special 646 think it was. Much better for HER. Good luck. As an aside, I finally got my SA Xdm elite in 10mm. We haven't shot it yet but she really liked the grip and how it feels.

I've had a 9mm EZ for 6 months and have 400 trouble free rounds through it. The pistol shoots where it looks, and all shots will stay on a coke can at 40 yards. I have large strong hands that don't always engage the grip safety, and I'm thinking about securing the grip safety in fire position. If not, I might have the local saddle shop cut a thick piece of leather and attach it to the safety. I'm a tad uncomfortable with the above idea. The trigger pull on mine is crisp. I recommend the little gun. My health has nose dived, and I'm selling my guns. This one will be the last one to go....

I got the wife one. She still has trouble racking the slide so it is mine now.

My wife picked out a 380 EZ for herself due to difficulty racking the slide on her LC9s. She has no problem manipulating it and so far it's proven reliable (no last round stove pipes that I've heard of in others) and is quite accurate at the ranges she would use it at.

I bought the EZ in 9mm. I put a little over 400 rounds through it and then heard about the recall. Sent it in and got it back in 2 or 3 weeks with a new hammer installed. I have only fired another 2 hundred rounds or so since I got it back. It could use a little more width in the grip area. If the magazine was a 1.5 stack instead of the single stack, that would have made it a bit better fit in my hand and added a few more rounds. But it serves it's purpose well.
