I casted with this single cavity, iron, hollow point mold for the first time last night. My IR thermometer read about 400F for the mold and 450F for the hot plate before I started. Lead was about 780F. This was the easiest first session on a mold I have ever had. Very little mallet work to get the boolits to fall out - sometimes just removing the hollow point pin was enough.

So happy with this mold that my next mold will be a 3-5 cavity iron mold. Makes me wonder if I lucked out here and got a good one.

I have that one and an early factory -429HP, I love casting with both of them. They shoot great for me out of my .38 and .357 cast out of ubiquitous range scrap. I have a large nut that sits on the hot plate that I dump the pin in to preheat as well as the mould. The key part is to keep the pin hot. There’s an article over on the LASC site that tells the ins and outs of using this mould

Very helpful information! I recently acquired one of these molds, although I haven't tried it out yet.
