I had 4 boxes of the afore mentioned bullets given to me today.

All the 30 caliber cartridges I've loaded in the past have been .308.

I've loaded 30-30, 30 carbine, 30-06, and 300 H&H, all .308.

Remington PN is:B22798.

.307 is used where?

The .307 is correct for factory Remington .30-30 bullets, intended as pressure moderating measure. Core and jacket material are soft and bullet upsets to fill barrel grooves upon firing. Accuracy is not affected.

7.5 Schmidt-Rubin
7.5 x 55
7.5 Swiss
7.5 x 54 French MAS
307 Winchester
30 Remington ( chambered in a pump or automatic ...I believe)

That's about all I can think of ... The Swiss 7.5 rifles were the most common use of .307" bullets .
A lot of surplus model 1911 Schmidt-Ruben rifles hit the surplus market in mid 1960's ... with strange cartridge and straight pull action ... they sold cheap $20 ... a 1903-A3 Springfiels was $60 .
All the high school guys I shot and hunted with bought one ... I bought two !
7.5 required .307" bullet ... 308" could and usually was loaded but a few companies made .307" bullet runs for those of us who hunted deer and hogs with them .
The Loads in Hornady Reloading Manual 1st Edition (1967) used .308" bullets because Hornady didn't have any .307" bullets to test or to sell ...so they used .308" and warned you about the difference .
Luckily a .307" bullet can be substituted safely for a .308" bullet ...pressure is just a little lower and velocity might be slightly slower .
.307" diameter bullets are an odd duck ...might be a collector would want them !

The guy who gave them to me thought I could use them in my 30 carbine, took one look at the box and knew that wasn't going to fly.

Have to decide if I'll ever use them or send them down the road, chance of me using them to hunt in a 30-30 is pretty slim. 98% of my rifle shooting is ringing dingers and plinking. Other 2% is ventilating pictures of prairie dogs on the first Saturday of the month

Commented at the gun club today about plinking with a 470 N.E. and I got asked if I'd taken my medication this morning.

But I like plinking.

Remington loaded them in the 30-30 and 30 Remington, as mentioned.

I see the opportunity to load and shoot, PC, barter, sell, take the individual for a nice lunch or some cool ones. Four boxes of new .307" can be used whole bunches of ways!
