As much love as there seems to be for the 38 wadcutter, there seems to be rather little interest in the 44 wadcutter.

For example, Lee doesn't make a soup can bullet for the 44, and I love this bullet in 38.

Lyman 429348 seems to be rare. Not a single return for H&G 239 on ebay. Are there any i'm overlooking. I would think there would be a classic 44 full wadcutter, around 200 grains, to be had.

This seems to be an interesting thread (https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?310482-charter-arms-bulldog-44sp/page2).

Some interesting data (https://www.mattsbullets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=250) from Matt's Bullets.

Go to accurate molds, just counted 15 and I stopped at the 220 grainers. some looked pretty good. I have a 45 wadcutter but my round flat boolits shoot just as accurate as the full wadcutter.

Arsenal make three different ones. I want to try one in my 14 inch tc barrel 44 special not magnum.

I ran a LEE Group Buy of this 45 2.1 designed 44-200 DEWC about 16 years ago. It was very popular so you might ask if anyone has one to sell.
It works very well with 20:1.

I asked Tom at Accurate molds for this one. I like it a lot with 5 grs of Titegroup. http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=43-185V Also I have an Arsenal wadcutter mold in 41 cal. I like that one too.

Hollow Base or Solid, you get both pins. Pick what you want and ask to be notified when it runs.

Reason being, 44 isn’t exactly a target cartridge. Not that it’s not capable, but the shooters can’t handle the extra recoil over the 38 versions. 44 is more of a field cartridge.

I had a Lyman 429348 WC (180 gr.) mold and did not like it. The full wadcutter was too unstable past 40 yards. I called Veral at LBT and ordered a 44 cal OWC (Ogival Wadcutter) which weighed 230 gr. and love the heck out of it. Stability falls off after 65 yards, but inside of that it is a tackdriver in my 44 Specials and Magnums in both rifle and revolver configuration. The Lyman is blue and the LBT is pink.

That ogival wadcutter is very interesting. Near maximum meplat. Decent long range stability.

For longer range you would want the LFN style .

NOE has a good selection of 44 cal. wadcutter moulds , all plain base ... the middle number is weight in grains :
432 - 107 - WC
432 - 149 - WC
432 - 153 - WC
432 - 153 - WC
432 - 215 - WC
432 - 226 - WC
432 - 237 - WC
432 - 246 - WC
You can see them at www.noebulletmoulds.com and even download dimensioned drawings .
They seem to have a wide range of weights in 44 cal. from 107 grains up to 246 grains .
Plus there are a few WC's with sharp points added ...refered to as SP (sharp point)...
these are really cool looking !

Lee used to offer a wc mold for the 44, I had one. Its just not known as a target gun. So Accurate is the place to go. Tom makes great molds.

I have the Saeco #944 200 gr WC that has worked well from several guns

For those using a WC in 44, do you find better accuracy over a similar weight swc design? Or is the benefit mainly for ease of scoring?

I have the 429348 WC, and love it. In the 44 spcl case, with 4.5 gr of Bullseye, performs well for me. I never had a bullet that destroys tin cans better than this bullet does.

Thanks for the post and the name for this wadcutter design ... Ogival - Ogival Wadcutter - OWC !
I picked up a Lymn 358432 - 160 gr. single cavity mould real cheap ... I knew it was a wadcutter but I suspected there was more to the name ... I read several articles on WC's , looked in my Lyman cast boolet manuals but couldn't find the name . Reason ...it is the most accurate boolit in all my 38 specials and 357 magnums under 50 yards ... and I've been testing moulds and loads and boolit designs for the last 50 years to find the most accurate ...this is it Ogival Wadcutter .
When I saw NOE made it in 4 cavity ...I had the check in the mail so fast it made my head spin .
Since then I have ordered a NOE OWC moulds in 41 cal for 41 Special / 41 Magnum and one in .45 cal. for 45 Colt / 45 Auto Rim . I got all my OWC bases covered !
Thanks :drinks: I now know what they are Ogival Wadcutter !!!

I am taking a hard look at Accurate’s 43-215-W for my .44 Special revolvers. If I get a .44 magnum then possibly the 43-240-W. I will probably order a tri cavity brass mold and only dedicate 1 cavity to the wadcutter but that is me trying to squeeze more boolit types into my limited budget.

NOE made me a HBWC in 44 caliber years ago … I believe a couple are listed in their catalog now. Loaded “upside down” at moderate velocities is quite a “whacker”!

I don't see any Ogival Wadcutters in the NOE catalog. And, it seems, everything is out of stock. This (https://noebulletmolds.com/site/shop/bullet-moulds/432/432-246-wc-az3/432-240-wfn-cf5-rg2-cavity-pb/) is the closest I could find.

I use the Accurate 43-190W in my 44's. 6 grains of bullseye in 44 Mag cases gets it done very, very well.

I have the Accurate 43-215W you are considering and can send you a batch to test before you order the mold. Drop me a note if interested.
