Anyone familiar with this mould and what cartridge it might fit?

Well, it's a 500 grain .45 caliber rifle bullet. It should work nicely in a .45-70.

I can find only two moulds that start with #450 ...from Lyman Mould Reference Table / Chart
450225 - a 170 gr. RN
450229 - a 155 gr. C,MN (conical , minie)
Not sure what these odd-balls are for ...C,MN stands for Conical Minie .

Lyman's Mould Reference Table/Chart does not show a number 450457 ... anywhere .
I'm at a loss for this one !

My guess is it was meant for the Whitworth or Parker-Hale Volunteer rifle. Both muzzle loaders by the way.

Appreciate the info provided. Might just cast a couple of boolits and see what micro and scale say.

Thanks!

Any chance Lyman or you had a typo? I have 3 factory Lyman moulds that were mis-marked.
Perhaps it's a 350457, the heavy slug for the 348 Win? It's a "not so common" mould for that caliber. I have one stashed away, but have never cast with it. I don't recall the design weight but think it was in the 250gr range. Bill in MA

The 450 prefix was used for the .44 Cal. Black Powder pistol boolits, though Lyman was known to cross over numbers from Ideal and use the prefix for something else. The .451 Self Loading Rifle perhaps, but without a pic we will never know for sure.

Pictures of the mold. I should probably cast a few…

I also suspect it’s for a .451 muzzleloading Volunteer or Whitworth rifle.

I have an early production Parker-Hale Volunteer with Rigby square form rifling, that came with a Lyman boolit mold serial numbered to the rifle. That mold number is 450457. Most accurate muzzle loader that I have ever used!

Nice mould, and thanks for the pic!
I will go with Mark and Bad Ass on this also, and probably has several applications for old M\L and early cartridge rounds.
Nice find!

Strange that it is cut for a gas check...

It's probably a tapered based for seating. That's an awfully long boolit for muzzle seating.
