357 Mag and different lead bullets.

I have been looking at load data and have seen 158gr SWC with 5gr Titegroup as the listed max. I have 158gr "pugnose" bullets that I plan to work up with TG and HP-38 for my 4.2" GP100.

I have not been able to find data for those powders and 190gr LFN bullets, but the closest I have found is 180gr Partitions with a 6.1gr max with Titegroup. What is the consensus on Titegroup with the heavier lead bullet and working up from about 4 or 4.5gr of Titegroup or HP-38?

I don't need or want barn burners, just a load that will have adequate smack out to about 40 yards for deer. I also have 158gr XTP and JSP I use in a Contender 360DW, but want to keep the GP100 as a lead only gun.

I'D want a slower-burning propellant that burns less hot than TG. I'd probably try to launch the 180s or 190s with something in the range of Unique, Herco, or Blue Dot. Just me.

I am using AA-9 for the 190 gr LFN out of the NOE mold in both my revolver and rifle. Even with the plain base, pushing it to 1400 fps out of the rifle gave no leading problems and was pleasant to shoot.

Right now the issue is finding different powders to try. I will look for Unique and AA9 to try next few times I make my rounds through the shops.

I agree.

titegroup is a fast burning target load, it's not designed for high velocity.

I'd look into good old 2400

For Hunting Purposes, with a boolit that heavy, I'd be looking for slower powders: Blue Dot, AA no 9, 2400, VV N-110, WW 296, H-110, even 4227. I would not be looking at Titegroup. The fastest burning powder I'd be looking at would be Herco or AA #7.
