I recently moved to a new house and we've been settling in for a little while. So, unpacking the reloading stuff was pretty far down on the priority list.
Well, it got bumped way up because I found 5 or so pistol matches around this area that happen each month. And - I ran out of 40 S&W and 45 ACP... Now it is a priority!

So today, I installed my new reloading bench.

The bench is butcher block and 1" black steel pipe.

I'm going to put a shelf above and below and then as needed around the room. I'm still trying to figure out where to cast but there are several good places.

I had to move my casting/reloading area to the barn when my other half moved her massage therapy practice to the home.
There was a horse stall in the barn that was boxed in and converted to my casting/reloading area.
When I started, there was plenty of room.
Now I am stressed for space.
5 gallon buckets of brass, ammo cans of loaded ammo, Dillon boxes of loaded ammo, work bench, reloading/resizing bench, mould storage area.......I need more space.
Plan your space carefully.
It runs out fast!

Great looking bench blam. I'm needing to get started on a revamp of my loading area.

Boy, does it ever. Looks good so far Blam, keep us posted on the progress. When I moved into my current place I went over a week without my bench and I was having withdrawals till I got it set back up!

Don't know where you got the 'butcher block' top, but, the last one I got did not make a good workbench by itself. The top would split along the glue lines. I ended up putting some cross pieces that would spread the load. My other backup plan was to drill and install cross bolts.

They do make really good counter tops :) Cabinets support them well.

Nice looking bench! I'm another thats moving soon. I'll have a much larger room in the house and plan to use my old original bench frame but with a new top and shelves.

Looks great! Too clean... lol my wife keeps telling me that I can't start any new projects until I have bench space to work on something.
I don't know if that's a rule or not...

isn't there a giant thread of pictures of reloading benches and setups on here somewhere?

44Blam, I believe I would take Charlies suggestion and put some 2x4's under the butcher block running front to back and add a piece of 5/8" plywood on the top. After you get your press and other tools mounted is a baaaad time to find out that the pieces have separated on the block it's self. I really like the steel support legs, good luck.

That looks kinda like this:https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?12392-Loading-bench-pics

But my bench never looks as good as the ones that get posted.

And I would post a picture, but apparently my upload-fu is on the fritz, haven't been able to upload a file for several months. I would have blamed it on the phase of the moon, but I've tried on just about every moon phase with no success.

Just says upload failed with no reason why.

Try standing on one leg while drinking a glass of water upside down?

Nice choice with the butcher block. That's what I have and love it.

If it was me & mine, I'd save that picture.

It'd be about the last time I saw it when it wasn't piled high with 'needful things'.:bigsmyl2:

Maybe it’s just my eyes but I think you will need vertical support as close the outer edge of you bench top for your load press to rest on.

Best regards

I had that problem before. It turned out that the size of the photo (as in file size) was too big. Now I crop the pictures in my picture editor, until it is small enough to be acceptable. You might try that.

Congratulations, Blam! That is a nice clean design. If you add too much storage, you will soon be overrun with things that you can't part with. Ask me how I know.

Tried shrinking the photos several months ago, may have to try and shrink them down further.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion.

to post photos, I edit them in Paint and shrink to 20%. Be sure to save them as a new file name or the file size may stay the same.

Shrunk them down further than I ever had to before and got one to upload. Success!

Thanks.

I can see what you mean, but I realized that material he’s using is some thick solid hardwood, it’s not going to budge, the posts are only there to keep it from ripping off the wall. Nice design.

Hey all, I decided the bench needed a shelf. So far, it this bench is solid as a rock and I put 4 layers of spar varnish on it and it holds up pretty well to dirt, scuffs, beer bottle sweat, etc.

Those posts are drilled/screwed into the concrete AND the butcher block is bolted on to a 2x4 that has 4 3/8" lag bolts into the wall studs... It's gonna go when they demo the house.
The new shelf has 2 of those 3/8" lag bolts in there - I weigh 220 and the edge of that shelf holds me.
