While surfing Gunbroker last night (yeah I know) I ran across the most incredible rifles I’ve ever laid eyes on, Purdey, Rigby, etc. Prices on some are more than my house but some also have the most incredible wood and worksmanship I’ve ever seen, many in the $50K plus range are gone from last night to this morning but dang, if you’re a gun nut and like custom work, blued steel, and fine walnut as I do take a look.
There are also a ton of first printing books. I believe many of these come from the estate of Harry Selby who passed in 2018. Pleasure yourself….

Yeah, being fond of fine firearms, I'd be guilty of browsing and dreaming. I still have hopes for a nice vierling.

My soft spot falls on the Holland and Holland Royal line of double rifles. beautiful wood, finish, and classic lines that just seem to speak to me. Most used are around 100,000 and new ( built to the owners measurements and wants) are well over that.

The sad part of this story is we have no idea how many rifles were in the complete sale and what has already been sold. What were these, their prices and how quickly did they disappear from the "for sale" list. Would be very interesting to know these details.

At the SHOT show,, I've been able to see some shotgun sets, (say, a 4 barrel set) fully custom built,, that were listed for over $400,000.00. Stunning for sure. I have seen many of these high end works of art.
Beyond my means,, but still worthy of my admiration.

Had the occasion to visit Abercrombie & Fitch in NYC and went to Griffin & Howe's gun room. Just about any type of firearm you could imagine except for class 3 sitting in the gun racks. Frank

Does a $400,000 firearm actually sell or is the price a conversation starter?

I appreciate the art of them but some of the things about them just floor me. Like every part of every rifle being a one of. Lose a part or have a part break its back to the factory to have a replacement made. Just makes no sense to me. The same gun made with standardized parts would be just as pretty.

"Does a $400,000 firearm actually sell or is the price a conversation starter?"

Actual pricing & I figure they sell. It was at the Perrazzi (spelling?) booth. they had SEVERAL sets of guns for sale. And you could ORDER whatever you wished. I saw them from the low $100,000.00 up to that $400,000.00 mark.

Thanks for posting -- it provided a few enjoyable minutes vis my browsing! However, it made me recall my (now deceased) best friend, Hughie, who would see a (imho outrageously high priced) firearm at a gun show and put that at THE VALUE of his similar arm. I'd argue ;) that the prices on those SOLD would be much more valid. Similarly to this, there appear to be a few (the 10/22s and Marlin 39as) to be a more than higher price. BUT, then again, prices have gone up...
Anyhoos -- again -- thanks for posting (as well as following by Tazman1602)

Spent all weekend looking at those $$$$$$ guns at the southern sxs comp and expo. The supply seems to outweigh the demand to justify the prices.

oddly the 2 I'd enjoy the most are the mannlicher stocked ruger 77 in 6.5 x 55 and the kimber classic deluxe in 7 x 57.
