I have always casted round balls for my flint lock Lyman Deer Stalker. I have killed deer and antelope and elk with it, but am looking for a better mouse trap!

Does anyone have experience with either purchased or cast Minie Bullets?
Thank you!

I have been shooting minies for over 40 years. Casting your own is best but you can buy small quantities to find what works best. Minie gyns have shallower rifling than RB guns. Thats why they dont always perform as well in them. To get started try paul Weber in WV 304-258-4666or CWbulletman.com

cwtebay,

I have tried my cast Minies in my .50 and .54 Hawkens and Renegades, both flint and caplocks. I have a 60-acre farm with 5 ranges and shoot much. I cast Ball and Maxis as well as Minies. I have had better results from Maxis and use them for deer and bear here in PA.

I hope this helps.

Adam, I agree since the rifling depth on those guns is twice that on a Minie gun 5 vs 10 thousandths. The Maxis will perform better

Have tried doing in my 54s a long time ago. One T/C Renegade having a twist rate of 1-48 the other 1-66. Both times I found little to brag about concerning my mini's shooting experiences.

They work fine for Me, in both 54cal & 50cal.
Been shooting them in T/C Hawken & T/C White Mtn Carbine.
