Win 244 powder + Colt 45 250 gr chrono vs Fiocchi Cowboy

Been trying win 244 powder for 32 acp and decided to see how it does with Colt 45.
Great day at the range 66 deg warming up!

My target was to closely match the old black powder velocities of 850-900 fps using a 250gr RNFP. Came pretty close.
I used 6.7gr of win 244
Rem 2/1 LP primers
Made them on a Dillon 650 XL with Dillon dies.

I think the difference in smoke maybe had more to do with the bullets than the powder. The Fiocchi colts have some kind of dark protective coating on the bullets.
My loads were using 250 gr HSM .452 cast BN 15 RNFP. Probably just the lube burning off causing the excess smoke.

The data for 244 indicates low velocity vs. pressure. I like my big bore loads up close to 1000 fps. I just loaded some 45 Colt 268 grain boolits over 8 of 231 and these should do about 950 or so. The data was for 260 gr. boolits so they may be a bit warm.

Boy, I'LL say... You use a powder charge for a 160 gr. projectile, but then increase the actual bullet weight by 2/3rds? THAT'S going to be a "a bit warm" and THEN some! I'd be interested in hearing what your primers look like, and if you have any sticky extraction, with that load.

I went through quite a bit of old reloading data on 231 and HP38 which 244 is suppose to replace. I found w244 to be a tad hotter than 231 at least my lot vs expected fps for the grains used.
