When I made mine, I got the cord, tools, and a instruction book from Jan's Netcraft,
and there's a guy from England on youtube that's got a couple good videos on how to knot it up.

I ran hoop nets a lot in the 1970s. Ours were made by Memphis Net and Twine and came to us tarred. Supposedly the tar kept catfish spines from hanging up in the twine; it must have worked since the channel cats would shake right out of them. You don't need an overly large net to catch a lot of fish. We used 2.5-3 foot diameter nets (if memory serves, which it may not) and caught channel and flathead catfish and several varieties of sunfish. One thing I liked about them (compared to gill nets) is that they seldom kill fish so you can release what you don't want or can't legally keep. Most of the fish killed in them were bluegill and other sunfish eaten by the flatheads, which they regurgitated when we picked up the net. It's surprising how large a bluegill a small flathead can get down.
