Be careful with Vargent. M-1 dotes on 4895 and 4064. You don't want a bent operating rod. Hornady's latest manual list M-1 specific loads.

Nice looking rifle, should be a shooter!

How long to get it after you sent the order in?

varget is perfectly suited for m1 loads. lots of new powders have been developed since imr 4064/4895 came along. how many bent operating rods have you seen...probably none. The head armorer at CMP says in 22 years he has seen maybe two. Its a shame this misinformation keeps getting spread as a common occurrence. Can it happen perhaps, does it happen frequently..no

Those Experts are really nice. I opted for the 308 version since I already had an IHC in 30-06. My 308 is all Springfield with the exception of the Criterion barrel and a CMP walnut stock.

To elaborate further, you don't want to use powders that are slower burning than those two. It raises the port pressure and is harder on the oprod. The Scheuster adjustable gas plug works great on them BTW.

What does a CMP Expert Cost in .308 or .30-06? What does "Expert" mean?

The OP stock looks kind of dry from the picture. I would rub in much linseed oil, if needed.

When I purchased mine in January, the Experts were $1000. I understand they have gone up since then. Also the walnut stocks are unfinished and “dry”. I rubbed mine down with Tung oil and turpentine over several weeks. The picture is before any thing was applied.

I assume Expert is a new grade the uses GI receiver and internals with commercial barrels and stock. If you want a pure shooter, this is the way to go.
