I'm in the process of purchasing a custom Ruger No1 from a fellow shooter down south.
The rifle is a Ruger No1 which started life as a 303brit, but has been re-barrelled to a 38-72WCF. It comes with dies, brass etc but I will be chasing up some more brass; I always like to have at least 150-200 cases on hand for all my rifles.
It is a cartridge that I'm not very familiar with, as in have never reloaded for it before, so am really excited and looking forward to playing round with it.
I have been casting & powder coating for the past 2yrs now and am always learning new tips/techniques each and every time I start casting/coating. Never a dull moment eh!
There is every possibility that I will be posting up here again to tap into to the collective think tank for advice on this cartridge and casting to get the best from it.
As soon as the 'new baby' is in my hands I will get some pics up on here.
Just need the pay packets to hurry up so I can pay it off!!!!

I don't have first hand experience with this cartridge .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38-72_Winchester?msclkid=b752120aaf4811ec97d0ab8dd0d8 af26 I do use that 270/280 grain cast gas checked bullet in my 375 H&H. That said, find a load it likes between 1350 to say 1550 FPS speed & you are going to be happy. uncle mike

Good luck with it. Sounds like a challenging project.

Fun cartridge. Will take a 270 gr slug to nearly 2400fps. Low end H&H territory. You will like 1500fps a lot better, but the horsepower is there if you need it. Made mine from 405 win brass, buts thats how I designed the reamer.

It was designed as a black powder cartridge.

It may have been designed as a black powder cartridge, just like the 45-70, but in a strong rifle, it can give you quite impressive performance
