A neighbor and I have been trying to re-introduce Eastern species of wild turkeys to our area. They were killed out over the years, by hunting, poaching, ants and predators. These big deal came up in the back yard this morning. There is about 30 all together, just hope folks leave them to increase in population another couple of years.

Why would you want to? The Osceola turkey is the only reason I would ever hunt Florida.

I've seen exactly one Eastern wild turkey. It ran across the road in front of me near New Boston, Texas. Big birds.

They look like what we have here. We had about 30 last year but have only seen four hens so far. Damn coyotes are always after them, I think.

If there is habitat and no poaching they can multiply quickly.

The Osceola species only populates the peninsula of Florida, no where else in the world, they do not and never have populated the panhandle. So you do want to try to re-introduce a species that did not populate the area to begin with.
Hopefully we are a bit better judge of proper placement that the US Department of the Inferior.
