I heard a man at the range say that you could take a 22 mag case cut the base off and split , flatten and you could get 2 30 cal gas cks with the tool. So I had to see and he is right but you can get 1 out of a 22 LR also. Sure is a lot more substance than the AL from a coke can, but it is Brass will it work as a gliding material?
It is not very labor intensive but might be a good winter time project for this old pensioner.

Freughtman, 22 brass does make good gas checks, and if you have a swager, folks have used old 22 cases for Jackets on swaged boolits

You mean like this?

Yes, it can be done and is a PITA. I only did it to see if that gauge of brass would work. That's a 2 ply check in the photo. 10 thou brass and 4 thou soda can.

So how did they shoot, Jeff?

Has anyone tried the aluminum cover from a Stouffers lasagna? We eat that on occasion, get the "party" size since the little beggers scarf it up so readily, and I noticed the cover is a soft, fairly thick aluminum. Might be worth a try.

Just fine but no better than the alum. checks I am making with a lot less effort. Flattening out .22 magnum cases is very time consuming.

I agree with NZ Jeff ,Brass chex's are nice looking but for myself also they shot no better than alum. I also tried the traditional copper and again no better or worse than proper thickness of alum.which is .012 for mine, And alum is easy to find/ buy / scrounge in an already usable form ,cutting and flattening 22 cases for 2 or 3 chexs aint worth the hassle for me anyways
