Anybody using the LEE C225-55-RF for critters of this size or larger or smaller. I'm thinking along the lines of 1400-1900 fps. Might go a little slower with some real soft alloy.
Not much interested in long range or paper punching after load development. Coons & Opossums won't leave my chickens alone in the spring. Any enlightenment appreciated.

I have used a 60 grain round nose cast from qw
Steve started at 1600 fps to shoot squirrels, rabbits, coon and coyotes in traps. So yes I would say your 55 grain would work well for the animals stated.

Thats 22 Magnum / 25 WCF territory. Should be a nice thing.

I shoot the close range groundhogs 60 - 75 yards with a 47 grain Boolits from a NEI mold that has the same nose profile as the Lee 55 grain. Velocity of around 1600 fps from a 22 Hornet. Head and neck shots anchor them. Chest shots will let them crawl back to thier hole but the smell a few days later confirms they died.

I’ve used that design on pdawgs and found them to perform as described in post #5. The old bator design with its larger meplat seemed to be more effective on the dawgs but at closer ranges the newer design should work well. I was using them in a m788 .222 and I believe 14.0 gr of 4227. I was trying to use a softer alloy (unknown bhn) in hopes of obtaining a little expansion, but it appeared to not happen at whatever impact velocity is was getting.

I would have preferred a larger meplat for all of the known reasons, but midway just had this one on sale for less than $23.00 so I figured I'd try it with soft alloy. I'm not familiar with the bator mold, never seen one, but sounds like it would perform faster kills with the wider meplat.
