I have been shooting the hunter model. 44 quite a bit lately as we are planning a hunting trip this fall. I have been using the get the load dialed in and then shoot at objects approach.

We have a golf ball in the house. Not sure how it got here but the cat plays with it some. I would look at the golf ball and wonder. Nahh no way I would think. But still I would wonder. Besides the cat hates me.

So yesterday I was at the range testing a new .44 load. Got sighted in. Had golf ball. Had to try. 5 rounds left.

Went to 50 yard berm. Golf ball stood out real well. First shot. Ball moved. Put ball back. 2 more shots ball rolls down berm. 1 shot over ball (according to spotter aka Mrs.Thumbcocker).

Last shot, with all my snake eyed concentration, golf ball goes airborne. Retrieve ball. OK so it wasn't a solid hit but I will take it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220312/88377c27eb1e329fbc55b5c58a81bbfa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220312/078116fd9414d0fc2325268cf5740adb.jpg

As always,, a challenge can make us work harder. But those guns are very accurate too! Kudos!

Not a center hit, but, they do fly well with a 'side' shot :)

Nice pistol, great shooting. Anything close to a golf ball is meat in the freezer. I've shot golf balls with a 22 before. Big fun. A direct hit sends them flying. Kick one up the berm and try to hit it as it rolls back down, try to see how long you can keep it up there.
So what load are you working up? I have a Bisley, just put a red dot on it and am working up loads with the Accurate 280gr. pb, fp. using 2400, Unique, and 4227. My goal is +/- 1000fps. Ladders are loaded up, just waiting for the weather to break so I can get out there.

Load was 300 grain fp over 19.0 of 296. Have not chronographed it yet. That gun has an action job and barrel cylinder gap set at minimum.

great shooting! Doubt I could see one at 50 yds. Every once in a while someone will leave a golf ball or two on our range. I always had fun chasing them as far out as I could still see them. Usually one hit was all I could keep in sight with the .44 -- lots of fun with a 22 though.

Thumbcocker: You don't say what 300 gr FP, but of those I used & chronographed out of my 7.5" SBH, it should do 1100-1200 w/ 19gr W296.

Fastdadio: Which 280 gr Accurate mold do you have? I see only 3 of the PB 44 cal 280s in the catalog, and I designed one: 43-280G. I do have pressure tested W296 data for that, and it will digest way more powder at acceptable pressure than one would guess.

In the FWIW dept:

18.8gr H110 under the Lee 310gr FNGC, seated and crimped in the top crimp grove, 5 rnds chronoed 1,062 fps from a 4 1/4" M69. Chrono was 5 long paces from muzzle and Temp 46 deg f (Ammo from house to truck to range probably warmer than 46)

I have hundreds of old golf balls-- as I also play golf. I carry a bucket in my jeep for every range trip. Great fun!! The great thing about golf balls is that they are designed to be hit with a metal club at upwards of 100 mph-- so they hold up very nicely for shooting.

A .44 Mag on golf balls sounds like fun but I learned from experience that a pellet from a .177 air rifle is NOT a good idea. Golf balls have a tough hide and I'm pretty sure the pellet picked up a few fps before it came back and hit me in the leg.

Excellent revolver and shooting! Good concentration at 50. It's hard to hit something that small at that distance, but it's great for practice. I like Mrs. Thumbcocker calling your shots...

We used to shoot golf balls with 22-250s on the High Plains on cloudy days when the prairie dogs didn't show. Near 4000fps sure makes them fly.
I seriously doubt that I could hit one with a handgun- good shot!

Nice shooting! I always say, aim small, miss small…

When I can see the bullet hole on a target, I aim at it - makes me focus a bit better. I may not hit the first hole again but the groups are better.

Years ago, I was shooting my Colt Python and getting flack from a friend over my "antique" 6-shooter versus his "Hi-cap" 1911. There were some clay pigeons on the backstop at the hundred yard line, so I took careful aim at one. squeezed the trigger, and to my pleased dismay, it burst into pieces. I said to Eric, "If you can shoot, you don't need a bunch of bullets, one's enough."

I wouldn't have bet a nickle on my chances of repeating that shot, but it shut him up. For a while, anyways.

The more you practice the more trick shots you make................

When we go to the Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot each year, my wife expends hundreds of rounds from her S&W .38 special, making the golf balls we spread across the range dance. When she tires of the handgun, she shoots them using her Ruger 77/357 and the same .38 special cast bullet loads!!
She's pretty good!

I'd be doing good to see the golf ball at 50 yds.
