I want to load some reduced cast loads for my K31. It slugged at .308 and so I plan to size 150gr GC/PC bullets to .309, should I start with 13gr of red dot and other comparable reduced loads?

Lots of options on powder out there. Bullets not so much, due to the short or non-existent throat on these rifles.

12 - 13 of red dot, is acceptable, and should get you started. (Also Green dot works pretty much the dame.
Usually 12 grs or so of Unique and 16 of 2400 is also good, and have served me pretty well. Maybe a grain or two up for the 2400, depending on your gun, and the bullet weight.

I recently posted some results in another thread, regarding the RCBS 30-165 and the NOE copy of the Lyman 311-466.

I am still trying to perfect my load and get consistent 1 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

The K31 is a fun gun, but bullet selection is a little aggravating.

Also, search our archives for loading for the K-31. I used to own two of them and posted quite often about their likes and dislikes. And yes, .309" is the correct CB diameter.

Unique behind 311299 works well for me...it seats long too compared to other bullet profile

A few years ago I came into a small supply of a tapered 165 grain Eagan bullet, cast very hard (babbit metal). Started out with 21 grains of Blue Dot, and it shot so well that I never tried anything else. Haven't done anything with the K31 since then. Great rifle, just drifted more into small-game and Schuetzen guns and cartridges.

An old man gave me an NEI mold that casts this little 150 gr. PB FN.

In my K-31's I loaded it over 6.7 gr. of Bullseye. Accuracy was wonderful and I used it in High Power competition.

I also used Red Dot, around 7.0 gr. if I remember correctly.

Both groups were 100 yds., fired prone using a sling.

Do you recall what sight settings you had it set too? On my K98 with 13gr of red dot and 180~gr pill I had to set the sights to 600 yards to shoot 200 yard targets.

I had installed a receiver sight on my rifle, so I don't know.

Couple groups I shot today with my k31.
7 grains of red dot, lee 160 RN, cci pistol primer
297488

10 grains of red dot, rcbs sil, cci pistol primer, no gas check
297489

Both groups shot at 100 yards in 12 mph winds. Boolits were powder coated. The 10 grain group was OK considering no gas check. My k31 has a diopter sight on it. Groups are 1.5" and 2" respectively.

That’s awesome!
